Independent Contractor - Peer Support SpecialistBehavioral Health | Mental Health & Substance Use Recovery 3Waters Behavioral Health is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and recovery-focused Peer Support Specialist to provide community-based peer support services to individuals receiving mental health and/or substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. Independent Contractor (1099) Male Peer Support Provider Preferred Flexible Schedule | Community-Based Services What Is Peer Support? Peer Support is a non-clinical, recovery-oriented service provided by an individual who uses their lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use recovery, or other significant life challenges to help others navigate their own recovery journey. Unlike counseling or therapy, Peer Support focuses on connection, encouragement, advocacy, skill building, recovery planning, and helping individuals develop the confidence and resources necessary to achieve greater independence and stability. A Peer Support Specialist does not replace a counselor, case manager, or medical provider. Instead, the Peer Specialist works alongside the treatment team and provides something uniquely valuable—the perspective of someone who understands recovery through lived experience. Responsibilities The Peer Support Specialist may assist clients with: Building hope, motivation, and confidence in the recovery process Developing and working toward individualized recovery goals Sharing appropriate lived experiences to demonstrate that recovery is possible Identifying personal strengths and overcoming barriers to recovery Developing healthy coping skills and recovery routines Connecting with sober and recovery-supportive activities Attending recovery meetings and other community support activities when appropriate Learning how to advocate for themselves within healthcare, treatment, court, probation, and community systems Developing communication, problem-solving, and independent living skills Supporting clients during transitions between treatment levels and community living Encouraging treatment engagement and helping clients remain connected with their treatment team Assisting clients in identifying natural and community support systems Providing encouragement following setbacks while reinforcing accountability and continued recovery Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries Completing timely and accurate documentation of all services provided Communicating relevant client needs and concerns to the treatment team Who We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who understands that Peer Support is more than simply "spending time" with a client. Effective Peer Support uses lived experience intentionally to help another person move forward in recovery.

The ideal candidate is:

A Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) or otherwise appropriately credentialed to provide reimbursable peer support services in Ohio Comfortable working with individuals experiencing both mental health and substance use disorders Dependable and able to maintain professional boundaries Comfortable working independently in community settings Able to communicate effectively with counselors, case managers, medical providers, and other members of the treatment team Able to complete required documentation accurately and on time Respectful, nonjudgmental, and recovery-focused Able to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies Comfortable supporting individuals involved with probation, courts, recovery housing, and other community systems Independent Contractor Opportunity This position is structured as an independent contractor opportunity . Contractors are expected to manage their availability while meeting client needs, documentation requirements, professional standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
