The Teen Development Coordinator (TDC) is at the heart of that work. This position is more than running an afterschool site. The Teen Development Coordinator builds relationships, leads a team, creates memorable experiences, and helps young people ages 13-18 develop the confidence, skills, and connections they need to imagine, explore, and design their own futures. The ideal candidate is energetic, dependable, creative, and passionate about working alongside teens. What You'll Do Build Relationships That Matter Every great youth program starts with strong relationships. As a Teen Development Coordinator, you will: Build authentic, positive, and consistent relationships with teens. Serve as a mentor, role model, advocate, and trusted adult. Create an environment where young people feel safe, welcomed, valued, heard, and challenged to grow. Encourage youth voice, leadership, decisionmaking, and ownership of their experiences. Maintain communication with parents and guardians to strengthen engagement and trust. Create a site culture that makes teens want to participate, contribute, and return. Bring Programs to Life Great programming should be more than something teens attend—it should be something they experience. You will help create and facilitate engaging opportunities in areas such as: Academic enrichment Arts and creative expression Career and future readiness Civic and community engagement Leadership development Life skills Health and wellness Recreation and physical activity You will also: Facilitate workshops, group discussions, projects, and interactive activities. Help teens identify their interests and connect those interests to meaningful opportunities. Plan and coordinate field trips, special events, community projects, and other experiences. Adjust activities based on youth interests, participation, feedback, and program needs. Lead the Site The Teen Development Coordinator is responsible for creating a site that is safe, organized, engaging, and ready for young people every day.

You will:

Ensure the site is open, staffed, prepared, and safe during designated program hours. Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, guardians, community members, and site partners. Maintain an organized, clean, welcoming, and youthfriendly environment. Ensure equipment, supplies, and facilities are maintained and in good working condition. Follow YouthPlaces policies, procedures, safety expectations, and emergency protocols. Respond appropriately to incidents, concerns, and unexpected situations. Complete required site operational responsibilities and documentation. Lead & Develop Your Team Strong youth programs require strong teams. As the site leader, you will: Provide direct supervision to staff and volunteers assigned to the site. Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable. Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, support, and direction. Facilitate regular staff checkins and team meetings. Model professionalism, communication, initiative, sound judgment, and teamwork. Build a collaborative and resultsdriven team culture. Help staff strengthen their skills as youth development professionals. Address performance, communication, and program concerns in a timely and professional manner. Track Progress & Tell the Story We want to know not only how many young people participate, but also how they are growing because of their experiences.

You will:

Maintain accurate daily attendance and participation records. Collect and maintain required youth enrollment documentation. Ensure case notes and other required youth documentation are completed accurately. Track youth participation, engagement, and program performance. Observe youth behavior, growth, strengths, and areas where additional support may be needed. Complete required site reports and operational goals. Use participation data, youth feedback, staff observations, and program outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement. Celebrate and communicate youth accomplishments and program successes. Create a Safe & Welcoming Environment Safety is everyone's responsibility, and the Teen Development Coordinator helps set the standard.

You will:

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming teen space. Monitor program spaces to support the physical and emotional safety of participants. Address and report incidents, safety concerns, or facility issues promptly. Ensure staff and youth understand and follow appropriate site expectations. Follow YouthPlaces emergency procedures and safety protocols. Support Meal Service Food is an important part of creating a welcoming and supportive environment for young people. The Teen Development Coordinator will help ensure meals and snacks are provided safely, respectfully, and efficiently.

Responsibilities include:

Assist with unpacking, organizing, and setting up meals and snacks. Ensure food items are handled and stored appropriately. Set up serving areas with utensils, napkins, condiments, and necessary supplies. Serve meals to youth in an organized and respectful manner. Follow required portion and meal service guidelines, including CACFP and/or SFSP requirements when applicable. Maintain required meal service documentation. Monitor meal distribution to promote an efficient and positive experience. Maintain clean and sanitary food service areas. Clean tables, counters, serving areas, and food service materials before and after meals. Properly dispose of food waste and trash. Connect Youth to Their Community Youth development doesn't stop at the program site's doors.

You will:

Build positive relationships with schools, families, community organizations, and other partners. Collaborate with YouthPlaces staff and partners to connect teens to additional resources and opportunities. Support outreach and recruitment efforts to engage new youth. Represent YouthPlaces professionally in the community. Attend staff meetings, trainings, supervision sessions, and professional development opportunities. What You Bring Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. At least 12 years of experience working with teens in an afterschool, schoolbased, recreation, community, mentoring, or similar youthserving environment. Demonstrated passion for youth development and youth empowerment. Ability to build positive relationships with teenagers while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, and conflictresolution skills. Ability to lead activities and engage groups of teens. Ability to work independently while contributing to a larger team. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to successfully complete all required background clearances and certifications, including applicable state background checks, FBI fingerprints, Child Abuse Clearance, NSOR, CPR/First Aid, and Mandated Reporter Training. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in youth development, education, social work, human services, recreation, or a related field. Previous experience supervising staff, volunteers, or youth leaders. Experience facilitating workshops, group activities, projects, or creative programming. Knowledge of traumainformed and youthcentered practices. Ability to connect and communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences.
