Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Substance Use Counselor, where your expertise will make a profound difference in the lives of individuals battling addiction and mental health challenges. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate clinical counseling, conduct comprehensive patient assessments, and develop tailored treatment plans to foster recovery and resilience. Duties Conduct thorough intake evaluations, including diagnostic assessments using ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems, to determine client needs and develop individualized treatment strategies. Deliver evidence-based addiction counseling utilizing techniques such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, and applied behavior analysis to promote behavioral change. Facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions focused on substance use disorder recovery, mental health counseling, PTSD care, and family dynamics. Implement crisis intervention strategies to manage acute situations effectively while ensuring client safety and stability. Maintain accurate medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations, utilizing medical terminology and CPT coding for billing purposes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on case management, patient care plans, and diagnostic evaluations to support holistic recovery efforts. Engage in community outreach and home-based care when appropriate to extend support beyond clinical settings, fostering community integration. Experience Proven experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment environments, including hospital or community care settings. Strong background in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), social work practices, and crisis management techniques. Experience conducting diagnostic evaluations for addiction medicine or mental health disorders with a focus on trauma-informed care like PTSD. Ability to perform patient assessments that incorporate data collection, research insights, and diagnostic tools to inform treatment planning. Knowledge of behavioral management strategies including applied behavior analysis (ABA) and behavior modification techniques. Excellent communication skills for engaging clients in individual or group counseling sessions while demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
