A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Non-Exempt, Full Time Summary:
The Early Intervention Counselor plays a crucial role in providing substance abuse prevention and early intervention services to youth, adults, and families in Philadelphia. This position focuses on empowering young people at high risk of addiction with protective factors to make positive decisions regarding substance use. Key Responsibilities:
Deliver early intervention services to individuals and families Provide substance abuse prevention education through various channels, including media messaging, social media, group facilitation, and presentations Conduct screenings and assessments for youth and families Implement and facilitate prevention education and family-strengthening programs Perform community outreach to increase awareness and prevent substance abuse Represent the organization in public and media engagements related to substance abuse prevention
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in a related field preferred Experience working with youth involved in substance abuse Sensitivity to culturally diverse populations Valid Pennsylvania driver's license and access to a vehicle Current criminal background check and State and Federal child abuse clearances as required to work with children
Required Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively Proficiency in facilitating educational programs and presentations Knowledge of substance abuse issues and recovery principles Excellent organizational and time management skills
Work Environment:
Based in Philadelphia with community outreach requirements Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range: $19.00 - $21.63 per hour Comprehensive benefits package 403(b) matching options Paid time off and employee assistance program
