Substance Abuse Counselor needed for an opiate treatment program (OTP) located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Position Summary The OTP Counselor provides substance use disorder counseling, case management, and recovery support services to individuals receiving medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. The counselor works as part of a multidisciplinary team to support each patient's recovery goals, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and promote overall well-being. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs. Manage a caseload of approximately 50 patients. Provide individual counseling sessions utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy in accordance with federal, state, and program requirements. Complete comprehensive assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries within required time frames. Facilitate patient engagement in treatment, relapse prevention, and recovery planning. Collaborate with medical, nursing, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated care. Participate in case conferences, clinical supervision, and staff meetings. Educate patients on addiction counseling, relapse prevention, and coping skills within a supportive environment. Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards of practice. Requirements Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field, although master's degree preferred. Experience in substance abuse counseling and/or case management preferred. Certified Addictions Counselors (ADC/AADC), Licensed Professional Counselors and Associates (LPC/A), Licensed Social Workers, or those who are in the process of obtaining their ADC, AADC, LPC, or LMSW are also preferred. Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; licensure or certification as required by state regulations. Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings. Experience Minimum of 1 year of counseling experience in substance use disorder treatment, preferably in an OTP or MAT setting. Knowledge/Skills Proficiency in psychotherapy techniques such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, applied behavior analysis, and behavior management. Familiarity with medical documentation standards including HIPAA compliance and medical records management. Experience working with diverse populations. Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and empathetically. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to patient-centered care.
