A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Ascent Recovery Solutions (ARS) is an independent state of the art center for medication assisted treatment for individuals struggling with an opioid addiction. With a full-circle of care that includes physicians, pharmacists, counselors, nurses, and other service coordinators employing a blend of therapies and the use of safe and effective medications, we treat the addiction and its underlying causes encompassing the social, psychological, and financial stresses that decrease relapse and make successful recovery possible.Position Characteristics:
Addiction counselors provide treatment and support to assist patients in their recovery from addictions. They assist with modifying behaviors and may provide counseling services to patients and family members through an outpatient setting. They also work with the patient to develop a unique treatment plan that centers around the patient and his or her specific needs and support systems to maximize their recovery success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties that are assigned: Completing assessments, intakes, treatment plans, progress notes, discharges, and other necessary paperwork associated with managing a caseload of up to 50 patients in a timely manner compliant with regulations. Providing individual, family, and group counseling using Evidence Based Practices to meet the needs of the patient. Assisting patients with defining and achieving realistic goals. Identifies any clinical/case management needs and works to address those needs. Reports patient abuse, neglect and exploitation as required. Educates patient in all aspects of treatment, corresponding health issues and steps to recovery. Providing crisis interventions as needed. Assisting in peer-to-peer record audits. Ensuring patient confidentiality in compliance with 42 CFR Part 2 (Federal Confidentiality Regulations) and 45 CFR, Parts 160 & 164 (HIPAA) Providing supportive counseling in conjunction with Medical and Nursing Services. Obtaining or maintaining proper licensure and/or certification according to specific state requirements. Performs other tasks as assigned by clinic, region or corporate leadership. Always acts in the best interests of the patient within the scope of law and regulations. Honors the company by supporting and protecting the proprietary data and rights of the company. Ensures compliance with local, State, Federal and Ascent's rules, regulations and policies. Contributing to the ongoing assessment and treatment planning process through participation in daily reports, case reviews, and treatment team meetings.- Supervision for substance abuse certification is offered on site at no additional cost to our employees.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree and either Certified/licensed in addiction counseling in the state of SC or wants to be in the process for state certification No legal impediments to serving in a licensed opiate treatment program.
