What they do
A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

Qualifications Counselor I Pay:

Required:
Bachelor's degree or higher; or qualifying CSAC credentials CSAC Supervisee or CSAC Supervisee Pending preferred Eligible for certification/licensure through the Virginia Board or nationally recognized certifying body Experience in substance use treatment preferredCounselor II Pay:
$25.00- $31.
Required:
Bachelor's degree or higher One or more of the following: CSAC Resident in Counseling Resident in Marriage & Family Therapy Supervisee in Clinical Social Work LCSW pathway candidate Eligible for applicable licensure/certification inVirginia Counselor III Pay:
