Overview Iowa 4-H and the County Youth Coordinator will focus on Positive Youth Development (PYD) for 4-H clubs (4-12 grade).Staff will work with youth, volunteers, and professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate aprogressive series of educational programs and experiences that work toward multiple life skilloutcomes (productive citizens, outstanding communicators, effective leaders, and successfullearners). This position should empower youth to reach their full potential through Youth-AdultPartnerships and research-based experiences. Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service to clients. Maintain a high level of marketing and visibility for all programs. Maintain a positive working relationship with staff and clients in the county. Continually develop and enhance relevant skills and understand current professional standards. Be knowledgeable of ISU Extension and Outreach staff and programs. Be able to assist and redirect clients over the phone or face-to-face to needed resources. Develop and collaborate with internal and external partners to advance the Iowa 4-H mission and vision. Develop and implement a year-round county recruitment and retention strategy to bring diverse youth from entry-point activities into long-term involvement in 4-H. Communicate effectively and build relationships with county extension council members, families, volunteers, co-workers, partners and community stakeholders to build, grow, and strengthen educational programs. Represent Iowa State University, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and Iowa 4-H professionally and positively. Implement programs in accordance with state and federal guidelines and policies and share with volunteers and community partners. When volunteers are utilized, ensure all volunteers comply with all risk management policies, including required training and background checks. Administer evaluations and share impacts with County Extension Council and partners. Implement programming to attract new 4-H audiences to address local youth issues. Apply program quality methods and strategies to 4-H experiences and clubs. Communicate effectively with 4-H members, families, volunteers and other staff through newsletters, letters, and emails. Apply Positive Youth Development practices to in-and out-of-school settings. Utilize partnerships to implement vetted educational curriculum-based youth development programs following the five program priority areas: (1) STEM; (2) Communications and Arts; (3) Healthy Living; (4) Leadership and Civic Engagement; (5) Agriculture and Natural Resources, advancing Iowa 4-H mission and vision. Ensure fidelity in program delivery. Promote 4-H clubs and county, regional and statewide 4-H events and activities; including, but not limited to, Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, Iowa State Fair, 4-H State Recognition. Organize and deliver county and multi-county 4-H events and activities with volunteers; including, but not limited to: National 4-H Week, 4-H Awards Night, New 4-H Family events, 4-H club officer training, livestock weigh-ins, 4-H Project-Based workshop and county fair events prior to and during the county fair. Gather and prepare information to submit to media regarding youth events, activities, and 4-H members. Collaborate with other CYCs and 4-H program specialists to advance the 4-H program. Manage/oversee 4-H data including the 4-H Online Enrollment, FairEntry, and MyData. Order necessary materials and supplies in a timely manner with approval of Regional Director. Maintain a current inventory of 4-H materials and supplies. Serve as staff liaison/coordinator for county 4-H and Youth Committee (Policy Makers) and County Youth Council (Youth Leaders). Lead 4-H county fair activities as they relate to 4-12th youth, while maintaining positive relationships/partnership with county fair boards and volunteers. (Ribbon order, tag order, etc.) Lead and teach as needed for short-term groups (babysitting class, special interest groups, etc.) Lead community youth outreach programs (enrollment night, in-school presentations, Ag Day, Conservation Day, etc.) Implement 4-H programs in accordance with state and federal guidelines and policies (use of name and emblem, releases/waivers, fundraisers/activities, insurance, civil rights law, child protection policy, risk management policies, etc.) Follow county fiscal policy and procedures. Work with youth program specialist, county extension council, county/regional director, and other staff to ensure adequate financial resources are secured to carry out the 4-H program. Regularly participate in local, state, and national professional development opportunities. Other duties as assigned. Develop and implement a year-round county recruitment and retention strategy for diverse community and corporate volunteers. Assure compliance with risk management policies, including required training and background checks of volunteers. Organize and maintain volunteer management system (ISOTURE). Recruit and screen volunteers for various roles and activities. Organize volunteer training and directly train on specific county organizational tasks. Recognize and evaluate the contributions of volunteers, County Council, 4-H and Youth Committee, and project committees. Delegate responsibility and authority according to volunteer strengths and interests. Work with county 4-H foundation to secure private support through fundraising and local grants. Strong understanding of adolescent development, behavioral health, child welfare, and youth program best practices. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or from high-risk populations in educational or social service settings. Excellent communication skills for client interaction, family engagement, and community outreach. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for report writing and record keeping. Ability to manage conflicts effectively while maintaining a positive environment for youth engagement. Knowledge of positive behavioral interventions such as PBIS in classroom or program settings. Experience working with culturally diverse communities and bilingual skills are highly desirable. Background in social work or youth development programs with a focus on underserved populations. Capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail in documentation and case management. Qualifications High school graduate or GED. Team player. REPORTING
Reports directly to and receives direction from the Regional Director with input from the county extension council. Program reporting is to the Iowa 4-H youth program specialist. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and approval of the Calhoun County Extension Council. Job Type Full Time Hours 40 hours per week with some night and weekend work required. Benefits IPERS retirement and health benefits.
