Job Title:
Solar Journeyman Electrician Job Description This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems on a large-scale solar project in Maine. You will apply your journeyman-level electrical expertise to ensure safe, code-compliant, and efficient solar installations while working in a fast-paced, outdoor construction environment. Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, including mounting and wiring solar panels, inverters, and related equipment. Test electrical connections and system components to verify proper operation and ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards. Troubleshoot electrical and system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs or adjustments. Land and bend conduit for solar installations, ensuring clean, organized, and code-compliant routing of electrical runs. Lead underground electrical work, including trenching, conduit installation, and cable pulls for PV systems. Perform electrical terminations, wire management, and mod-to-mod connections, as well as string harness installations. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and construction drawings to ensure accurate and efficient installations. Perform VOC (open-circuit voltage) testing and other system checks to confirm correct system configuration and performance. Assemble and install racking systems and support structures according to project specifications and manufacturer guidelines. Use power and non-powered hand tools safely and effectively for installation, maintenance, and repair tasks. Collaborate with the site team to meet daily production goals and maintain a high standard of workmanship. Follow all site safety procedures and electrical codes, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices. Work efficiently in varying weather conditions and on uneven ground while maintaining focus on quality and safety. Complete & maintain an active, valid Maine journeyman electrician license throughout the project. Essential Skills Active journeyman electrician license in the state of Maine. At least 6 years of work experience as a licensed electrician. Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. Proficiency in landing and bending conduit for electrical and solar installations. Experience with underground electrical work, including conduit and cable installation. Strong skills in electrical terminations, wire management, mod-to-mod connections, and string harness installations. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and construction drawings. Experience with VOC testing and other electrical testing procedures. Demonstrated ability to use power tools and non-powered hand tools safely and effectively. Ability to work comfortably outdoors in extreme temperature conditions and on uneven ground. Capacity to perform in a fast-paced environment with daily production goals and handle pressure to meet demands. Willingness and ability to work 50-60 hours per week, including overtime as required. Willingness to maintain and pay for the required state license fee. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience on large-scale solar construction projects. Strong teamwork orientation and ability to collaborate with field crews and site leadership. Positive attitude and strong work ethic while performing tasks in demanding conditions. Comfort working with minimal shelter and in varying weather conditions. Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, code-compliant installations. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based on an outdoor solar construction site in Maine, where you will work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. The site consists of uneven ground and an active, fast-paced work area with daily production goals. Standard hours are first shift, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with Saturdays as overtime and Sundays reserved as a buffer for weather-related schedule changes. A typical workweek ranges from 50 to 60 hours. Portable toilets are available on site during working hours, and a trailer is provided for changing or staging, but there is little to no additional shelter, so you must arrive prepared to work in the prevailing weather. You will regularly use power tools and non-powered hand tools, work around heavy equipment, and follow strict safety procedures and site rules throughout the project. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Franklin, ME. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr.
