Job Title:
Superintendent of Construction Job Description A well-established commercial general contractor seeks an experienced Superintendent to oversee ground-up commercial construction projects from initial site clearing through final closeout. This position suits a hands-on field leader who excels at subcontractor coordination, project scheduling, and clear communication, and who thrives in a structured, repeatable project environment. You will work within standardized programs supported by historical data, checklists, and collaborative field leadership, allowing you to focus on execution, quality, safety, and schedule adherence. Responsibilities Oversee all phases of ground-up commercial construction projects from grubbing and site clearing through final completion and closeout. Manage and coordinate all subcontractor activities on site to maintain productivity, quality, and adherence to project plans and specifications. Enforce project standards, quality control measures, and safety protocols consistently throughout the project lifecycle. Produce accurate and timely field documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses. Develop, update, and maintain four-week look-ahead schedules that align with overall project milestones and deadlines. Review and break down look-ahead schedules with subcontractors on a weekly basis to ensure clarity of scope, sequencing, and responsibilities. Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to address issues, confirm upcoming work, and resolve conflicts in the field. Communicate effectively and proactively with project management and field leadership regarding progress, risks, and resource needs. Participate in ongoing collaboration with other superintendents to share best practices, lessons learned, and process improvements. Maintain momentum, make timely decisions, and drive results in a fast-paced construction environment. Apply standardized programs, historical data, and checklists to support consistent project execution and field controls. Support and oversee tenant improvement and site construction activities as needed, including retail and other commercial fit-outs. Interpret and work from blueprints and construction documents to ensure accurate field implementation. Promote a strong safety culture on site in alignment with OSHA standards and company safety policies. Essential Skills 7-10+ years of Superintendent experience on ground-up commercial construction projects. Proven experience managing projects from initial site work through final closeout. Demonstrated success in subcontractor management and coordination on active construction sites. Strong understanding of construction scheduling, including development and maintenance of four-week look-ahead schedules. Proficiency with field documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses. Experience using Procore for project and field management. Solid knowledge of safety practices and standards, including OSHA requirements. Strong background in commercial construction, including ground-up builds and tenant improvements. Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and construction documents. Experience working with or for a general contractor in a superintendent or construction supervision capacity. Ability to operate effectively within standardized programs and repeatable build processes. Strong communication skills for effective interaction with subcontractors, project management, and field leadership. Proven ability to maintain quality control and enforce project standards in the field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with restaurant, retail, dental, medical, or small grocery ground-up or tenant improvement projects is preferred. Familiarity with site construction and retail project requirements. OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training is highly beneficial. background in project management and construction management is advantageous. Experience working in a collaborative superintendent culture is a plus. Comfort with using historical data and checklists to guide field execution and decision-making. Track record of success in a fast-paced construction environment with multiple stakeholders. Work Environment This role is based on active ground-up commercial construction and tenant improvement project sites. You will work primarily in the field, overseeing site construction activities from early site work through final completion. The environment is fast-paced and schedule-driven, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality control, and standardized processes. You will use tools such as Procore, structured checklists, and historical project data to support consistent execution. The culture emphasizes collaboration among superintendents, clear expectations, and proven systems that support field success. The organization offers a strong, steady project backlog, leadership with a clear vision of successful field operations, and the potential for long-term continuity beyond initial assignments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Trinity, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $52.00/hr.
