Superintendent of Public Works

The Town of Pittsfield is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to serve as Superintendent of Public Works. This position provides administrative and operational oversight of the Public Works Department and is responsible for maintaining and improving the Town's infrastructure systems. The Superintendent is appointed by and reports to the five-member Board of Selectmen and performs duties as assigned by the Board, Town Meeting vote, and applicable law. The role requires sound judgment, consistent operations, and effective communication with Town officials, staff, and the public. This position functions as a working supervisor, directing staff while participating in field operations as needed. Responsibilities include planning and overseeing roadway maintenance and construction, drainage systems, and winter operations. Compensation and Schedule Salary dependent on qualifications, equipment experience, and work history Four-day summer schedule (4 ten-hour days) Competitive benefits package Participation in the New Hampshire Retirement System Key Responsibilities Oversee daily operations and supervise Public Works staff Plan and implement maintenance and construction activities Develop and manage departmental budget Ensure compliance with applicable regulations Maintain accurate records and reporting Communicate with Town departments, officials, and the public Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED (Associate Degree preferred) Master Road Scholar certification Minimum of 5 years of experience in highway maintenance, construction, repair, and snow removal, or equivalent experience Valid New Hampshire Class B CDL (CDL-B) Valid DOT Medical Card required Successful background check and driver's record review Ability to pass an NH DOT physical Subject to periodic random drug and alcohol testing Interested candidates should submit a completed application and resume to admin@pittsfieldnh.gov Applications are available at Town Hall or at www.pittsfieldnh.gov.
