Job Description

Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA)/Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Full-time position available to work at UT Medical Center, the Region's only Academic and Level 1 Trauma Center. This role will support the Endoscopy Center. Qualifications Certification is a requirement for employment in the State of Tennessee as a surgical technologist, a graduate of an CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program or an U.S. military surgical technology program. Responsibilities Provides for the care and safety of the surgical patient prior to, during, and after the surgical procedure. Prepares and maintains the sterile surgical field for each procedure and assures proper handling of instruments afterward. Assists with patient care activities a. Assists with collection of data for an objective assessment to identify patient concerns or human responses, e.g., vital signs. b. Responds to emergency situations as directed by RN Maintains safe and clean environment a. Wears personal protective equipment 100% of the time. b. Maintains standard precautions at all times with all patients. c. Demonstrates competence in applying aseptic technique. Performs physiology procedures a. Completes procedures in allotted time period. b. Reports patient care problems to Nurse Manager or designated delegate. c. Reports equipment problems to Nurse Manager or designated delegate. Quality and Safety Assists with equipment and scope maintenance a. Demonstrates competence in cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes and accessories. b. Follows scope repair procedures. c. Inspects endoscopes for damage and reports any malfunctioning to the Nurse Manager. d. Orients other staff members to proper method for high level disinfection of scopes. e. Documents orientation and competence level on appropriate form Full-time positions available! Desirable schedules (8, 10, 12-hour shift opportunities).
Qualifications:
  • Must Meet Tennessee CST Certification Requirements
  • BLS Certification will be obtained upon hire
  • Ability to support holiday coverage and take call requiring a 30-minute response capability (Weeknights and Weekend nights as required)
  • Experience preferred, but not required
  • Team-minded, accountable, professional, enthusiastic, and patient-centered qualities are critical.
Responsibilities:
  • Preparing the operating room for surgery
  • Understand, advocate, and maintain sterile parameters
  • Assist in patient care process, provide support during surgery by passing instruments, supplies, etc. to surgical team members.
  • Handle Specimens appropriately
  • Abide by hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including but not limited to surgical counts, universal time out, specimen management, patient reporting, sterile processing procedures, dress code, etc.
  • Stock supplies, assist room turnovers, participate in precepting, expiration date checks, and any other assigned tasks.
