Job Description
The System Sterile Processing Educator implements education and competency assessments, quality assurance, and process improvements for the HLD S department across the Harris Health enterprise. Under the direction of the Director System Sterile Processing, this role serves as a resource and educator in the sterile processing and high-level disinfection fields. The System Sterile Processing Educator possesses in-depth technical expertise, collaboration skills, and competency in adult education. This role is responsible for orientation, continuing education and competency evaluation, and ongoing in-services for all sterile processing department (SPD) staff and affiliated personnel. The position is responsible for developing, administering, and measuring educational and quality assurance materials based on regulatory, industry, and evidence-based guidelines. With a focus on patient and employee safety, the System Sterile Processing Educator will work collaboratively with department leadership, Peri-Op management, surgeons, Infection Prevention and Control, Clinical Resource nurses, ambulatory care clinics, correctional health, and other appropriate committees.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Education:
High School Diploma or GEDExperience:
Five years of related experience. Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures. Licenses and CertificationsCERTIFIED REGISTERED CENTRAL SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Qualifications- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required upon hire.
- Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Surgical Instrument Specialist Certification (CSIS) required or must be obtained within two (2) years of employment.
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor. GI Scope Certification (CFER) required or must be obtained within two (2) years of employment.
- Five (5) Years of work experience in sterile processing, high-level disinfection, and or in an operating room (required)
Communication Skills:

Functions Area of Responsibilities- Identify, arrange, and supervise all training for sterile processing employees as needed, collaborating with SPD lead techs.
- Keep the SPD manager SPD lead techs informed of new employee progress through regularly scheduled progress reports.
- Conduct and assist with staff in services as required.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of sterile processing procedures and infection control principles.
- Communicate and apply quality assurance measures for sterile processing department.
- Evaluate current and new regulatory criteria for compliance with industry standards.
- Perform detailed tray instrument quality checks and maintain quality data.
- Conduct quality assurance checks on vendor trays prior to acceptance and track vendor quality deficits.
- Update and maintain quality metric tracking and provide monthly quality assurance reports to SPD and surgical services leadership.
- Utilize evidence-based practice and data to guide improvement efforts.
- Support new employee orientation in the sterile processing department, including on the job training and documentation of employee competency in sterile processing standards.
- Coordinate with vendors to conduct periodic in services of all equipment and specialty instruments sets.
- Standardize best practices across all tanner health system.
- Optimize instrument tracking system as needed.
- Works with vendors to obtain verify current IFUs and communicate any changes to processes that need to be made in order to comply with all IFUs.
- Communicate with surgical services leadership any concerns or improvements needed to comply with standards and best practices.
Education:
