Job Description
Hilltop Learning Center (HLC) Malvern United Methodist Church Lead Teacher Job Description Hilltop Learning Center is a non-profit, faith-based mission of the Malvern United Methodist Church. The teacher is responsible for the physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth and development of the children by creating lessons and experiences. The teacher will work with and report to the Hilltop Learning Center director. All rules from the Employee Manual should be followed, including maintaining a friendly, professional appearance and attitude at all times.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years old Must have a high school diploma Current CDA or minimum of an Associate Degree preferred Passionate about working with children Treat all children equally with patience, tolerance and respect, regardless of their behavior Willing to work together with the other employees for a pleasant, positive environment. Exemplify Christian morals Keeps all information about the children and their families confidentialDuties and Responsibilities:
Greet and acknowledge all children and their caregiver as they drop off or pick up their child. Communicate regularly with the parents on their child's progress. Maintain an open, warm and professional relationship with all families. Newsletters and daily communication logs are required. Social media is not a professional or acceptable way to communicate. Provide a classroom environment that encourages child participation. Plan periodic parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress. Develop and implement lesson plans based on the curriculum used at our center that meet the teaching objectives. Prepare a pleasant classroom environment for an effective learning environment, such as materials/supplies, relevant bulletin board and classroom decorations. . Perform formal and informal classroom assessments and maintain those records. Perform ASQ screenings as required by test results. Maintain a schedule with daily routines, such as restroom, washing hands, eating lunch and snacks. Routine helps children learn to function in a structured environment. If working with young children and infants, provide care such as changing diapers, feeding and providing a safe, clean and nurturing environment. Maintain confidentiality of the children and families.Supervision:
All employees should work together to maintain an orderly physical environment along with providing stimulating experiences for the children. Children should never be left alone (except school age children) and should be supervised at all times.Playground:
No two staff members should be together on the playground unless actively playing with the children. Interact with the children during their playtime. No employee should be sitting! Interact with children at all times with dignity and respect: mealtimes, rest periods, diapering/restroom times, playtimes and activity times. Ensure the safety and welfare of the children and protect each from physical or emotional harm. Offer first aid to children when needed and deal with minor injuries. Maintain safety compliance rules in the classroom . Recognize, manage and guide inappropriate behavior and correct according to licensing and day care regulations. Maintain all routine record keeping, such as attendance rosters and recording meals. Complete incident reports immediately and have them signed by the parent/guardian. Report any suspected case of child abuse to ODJF (330-627-2571) as required by law. Cleaning, sanitizing and housekeeping duties, according to your shift, are integral to a smooth-running classroom: Wash tables, sweep floor in classroom, hallway and restrooms, throw away trash, assure plugs are in all electrical sockets, sanitize toys bimonthly (infants need toys sanitized whenever the toy is put in his/her mouth), remove or repair any items that could pose a threat to the children. Attend all staff meetings - they are mandatory. Complete the required courses within the first year of employment and renew as often as required. Additional requirements can be added to job description as needed. It is imperative for employees to have a pleasant, respectful attitude toward each other. Teachers should share their work and ideas. Positive cooperation is essential. When difficulties arise, please try to state differences openly and kindly. Look at your own behavior as well as the other employee's. If you have a problem with another staff member that you cannot resolve, see the director.
