AI Vision Robotics Engineer Greater New Orleans, LA | Direct Hire | On-Site
THE OPPORTUNITY A
well-established manufacturer in the Greater New Orleans area is building out an emerging-technology team and seeking an AI Vision Robotics Engineer to develop AI-powered vision systems and robotic automation for industrial material sorting and handling applications. This role designs computer vision and machine learning systems that identify, classify, track, and sort items on the production line using
NVIDIA AI
hardware and edge computing. You'll work hands-on with robotics, industrial cameras, and automation equipment, collaborating across mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to bring next-generation processing technology from prototype to production. It's a strong fit for an engineer who wants to combine AI, robotics, computer vision, and industrial automation on real hardware.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Develop AI-based vision systems for object identification, classification, and robotic sorting. Design, train, and optimize machine learning and computer vision models for object recognition, defect detection, material classification, and item tracking. Work with NVIDIA hardware platforms — Jetson devices, CUDA-enabled GPUs, and AI acceleration technologies — to develop and deploy edge AI applications for industrial material-handling environments. Integrate machine vision systems with robotic arms, conveyors, sensors, and automation equipment; assist with camera selection, calibration, image acquisition, and vision system optimization. Collect, label, organize, and manage image datasets for AI model training and validation. Conduct testing, debugging, validation, and performance tuning of AI and robotic systems. Support prototype development, proof-of-concept projects, and emerging-technology initiatives. Analyze system performance and recommend improvements to accuracy, reliability, and throughput. Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams, and maintain technical documentation and engineering records. Stay current on advancements in AI, robotics, machine vision, and industrial automation.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary range: $110,000 - $120,000, commensurate with experience Health, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) with company match plus profit sharing Paid time off
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Robotics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in AI, robotics, machine vision, automation, or a related engineering field. Experience with AI development frameworks and machine learning tools (e.g., ROS/ROS2). Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar programming languages. Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, CUDA, TensorRT, or related AI acceleration technologies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to solve complex technical problems using data-driven approaches. Strong project management and organizational skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Hands-on work with robotic equipment, prototype machinery, industrial cameras, sensors, and automated systems. Fast-paced environment supporting advanced technology development and new product innovation. Frequent cross-functional collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, software, and product teams. Occasional travel to customer sites, suppliers, trade shows, or testing facilities. Required use of PPE in manufacturing or laboratory settings; ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
