Job Description

AI Staff Engineer About Encompass Encompass is a South Florida-based platform company building the operational backbone for a growing national services business. We combine a technology platform, a partner network, and an operations engine - and we re doing it with a small, high-leverage team that ships fast and hires carefully. We re investing heavily in AI as a force multiplier. This role is central to that investment. About the Role The AI Staff Engineer is a hybrid role that combines the operational discipline of IT leadership with the technical creativity of a staff-level engineer. You ll operate cross-functionally - touching Product, Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Customer Success - with a singular mission: accelerate every team through AI. This is not a ticket-queue IT role, and it is not a heads-down engineering role. It is the seat at the center of our AI transformation - one person accountable for turning user feedback into shipped features within days, driving AI adoption across every business function, and building the internal platform that makes Encompass an AI-native company. If you ve been an IC in a large engineering org and felt constrained by scope, or a team lead who wanted more autonomy and less politics, this role was designed for you. The Six Responsibility Pillars You ll own all six of these - not a subset. The whole point of this seat is that one accountable leader holds the entire AI story. 1. Internal Application Development. Improve applications like Encompass Pulse using AI coding tools (Claude Code) to turn user insights into shipped features within days. Directly impacts Product, Engineering, and every internal user. 2. AI Workflow Adoption. Create and drive adoption of AI-forward productivity workflows across all business functions using Claude Desktop, Pulse, Encompass One, MCPs, Skills, and agents. The balance is knowing when to build for someone versus teach them to build for themselves. 3. Adoption Analytics & Reporting. Centralize reporting and dashboarding on AI tooling adoption. Build leaderboards, identify power users and those who need more support, and report to the C-suite weekly. 4. Feature Rollout & Enablement. Roll out new features for Pulse and internal products - create materials, training plans, and execute on them. Impacts every internal user. 5. MCP & Platform Engineering. Roll out new features for the Encompass MCP (Model Context Protocol) layer geared toward internal users. Maintain documentation, versioning, and deprecation policies. You re running an internal developer platform. 6. Security & Governance. Strategically drive security posture for safe AI adoption. Create monitoring, guardrails, and data classification policies. Co-own the AI security story with IT and Compliance. What We re Looking For Must Have 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years at a Senior / Lead / Staff level shipping production software in a SaaS or platform environment. Deep proficiency with at least one modern application stack (e.g., TypeScript/Node, Python, .
NET, JVM
). We care less about the stack than about your engineering judgment. Real engineering velocity. You ve shipped features end-to-end, from ambiguous ask to deployed product. You know how to scope, build, test, and roll out without a 20-person team. Cross-functional fluency. You can sit with a sales rep, a marketer, or a support lead, understand their workflow, and translate it into software - without losing them in jargon. A builder s instinct for AI tools. You ve used Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools seriously - not just as a novelty. You have opinions about where they help and where they hurt. Strong written communication. You can write a one-pager that a non-technical exec can follow, and a spec that an engineer can implement. Willingness to be in the Fort Lauderdale office full-time. This is an in-person role, and the cross-functional work depends on it.
