The Kapila laboratory is actively characterizing the human virome across the oral-gut-brain axis for the NIH Human Virome Program (https://commonfund.nih.gov/humanvirome) Qualifications include: A PhD degree in biomedical sciences or related disciplines. 1-2 years of post-doctoral experience in microbial and viral bioinformatics is highly recommended. Experience in next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics analyses related to viruses and the microbiome is essential. Background in long- and short-read sequencing (QC, alignments), data visualization tools and statistical analyses using various programming languages (R, python, etc) is essential. Experience in database management and RedCap is highly preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Multi-tasking and pivoting in a fast-paced work environment to accomplish goals are extremely important. Team-science oriented in working with other members of the group and collaborators to complete projects and publish in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
