The RoleThe Role:
You are the Power BI discipline Solution Architect responsible for safeguarding and migrating the client's analytics estate through a tenant-to-tenant consolidation. This includes workspaces, reports, semantic models/datasets, gateways (where relevant), service principals, permissions and operational governance.

Power BI migrations fail when teams ignore identity, access and workspace governance. Your role is to define the migration blueprint and factory execution patterns that preserve business-critical reporting while maintaining security and governance standards in the target tenant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define the target-state Power BI architecture and governance for the consolidated tenant: workspace strategy, admin controls, permissions model, deployment patterns, operational standards
  • Define tenant-to-tenant migration approach for Power BI artefacts: discovery, criticality classification, workspace mapping, move approach, validation, remediation
  • Establish runbooks for factory teams covering: workspace creation/config, permissions mapping, report/dataset migration patterns, dependency handling and post-move verification
  • Coordinate dependencies with
Entra Apps/Identity:
service principals, admin consent, API permissions, authentication methods used by datasets and refresh processes
  • Define validation gates and acceptance criteria: refresh success, dataset connectivity, row-level security behaviour, business-visible report parity checks
  • Build and govern the exception framework: legacy patterns, unsupported dependencies, complex gateway constraints, external data source issues
  • Drive production-ready operational reporting: defect trends, refresh failures, adoption metrics and continuous improvement backlog.
Who You AreMust‑Have
  • Proven delivery of tenant-to-tenant Power BI migration (workspaces/reports/datasets) with real production outcomes.
  • Strong Power BI architecture knowledge: workspace governance, security model, dataset lifecycle, refresh patterns, operational monitoring
  • Experience handling identity/service principal dependencies for Power BI estates in enterprise environments
  • Ability to create factory-grade runbooks and quality gates that minimise rework and protect business reporting continuity
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset for refresh failures, permission failures, broken dependencies and post-move validation.
Good‑to‑Have
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric concepts (where it impacts Power BI estate modernisation)
  • Experience with BI governance at scale (naming standards, workspace lifecycle, admin controls)
  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate alignment (PL‑300).Interpersonal & Consulting Skills
  • Strong business empathy: understands that reporting outages are business outages
  • Clear communicator of risk/impact and mitigation options
  • Sets and enforces standards without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Coaches the factory team to reduce recurring issues through repeatable fixes.
Shift / Working Pattern Notes
  • This role operates within a three‑shift 24x7 Factory model.
The specific rota will be confirmed, but shift handovers are mandatory and performance is measured on shift outcomes. Peak cutover windows may require schedule flexibility.
