Lead BI Engineer About the Team Enterprise BI delivers trusted, scalable, and governed business intelligence solutions that help leaders make confident, data-driven decisions. The team partners across business, technology, and data organizations to design curated datasets, semantic models, reporting standards, and executive-ready dashboards that improve transparency, consistency, and speed to insight. About the Role We are seeking a Lead BI Engineer to drive the design, development, optimization, and governance of enterprise business intelligence solutions. This role will lead the delivery of high-impact BI products, including Power BI dashboards, semantic models, certified datasets, and self-service reporting capabilities. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with business partnership, delivery ownership, and the ability to influence standards across teams. How you will add value Lead the design and delivery of enterprise BI solutions, including dashboards, scorecards, semantic models, curated datasets, and self-service reporting products Partner with business stakeholders to understand priorities, define KPIs, translate requirements, and deliver clear, actionable insights Design, build, and optimize Power BI semantic models, DAX measures, dataflows, and reporting layers for performance, usability, and maintainability Develop analytics-ready datasets using SQL, Snowflake, and modern data modeling practices to support enterprise reporting and decision-making Establish and promote BI standards for metric definitions, report certification, documentation, naming conventions, data quality, and access controls Improve BI performance and reliability through query optimization, model tuning, refresh monitoring, and capacity-aware design Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, and platform teams to strengthen upstream data pipelines, data marts, governance, and lineage Support BI modernization efforts, including migration and rationalization of legacy reporting assets into strategic enterprise platforms Leverage AI-assisted tools and automation to improve BI development, documentation, troubleshooting, and delivery efficiency Provide technical leadership, mentoring, design reviews, and best-practice guidance to BI developers, analysts, and cross-functional partners Modern BI & AI Enablement AI-Assisted Delivery Use AI-enabled tools responsibly to accelerate BI development, prompt engineering/DAX/SQL authoring, testing, documentation, and modernization Apply AI-assisted techniques to analyze requirements, draft metric definitions, identify data quality gaps, and improve dashboard rationalization Use clear prompts, validation practices, and review patterns to improve the consistency, accuracy, and maintainability of BI assets Stay current with emerging analytics capabilities, including natural language querying, semantic model assistants, automated insights, and intelligent observability Operational Excellence Use monitoring and observability practices to proactively manage usage, adoption, failures, data freshness, and performance trends Create and maintain documentation, lineage summaries, release notes, and support artifacts that improve transparency and operational support Continuously improve dashboard performance, refresh reliability, query efficiency, and semantic model quality What will help you be successful in this role 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics engineering, data engineering, or enterprise reporting, including experience leading BI solution delivery Architecting Visualization/Enterprise BI platform solutions, Power BI, DAX, dimensional modelling, KPI design, and data visualization best practices Ability to translate business needs into clear KPIs, requirements, dashboards, data products, and analytical narratives for technical and non-technical audiences and recommend the right platform for long term strategic needs. Advanced SQL skills and strong understanding of dimensional modelling, star schema design, data marts, KPI definitions, and analytics-ready datasets Experience with Snowflake or modern cloud data warehouse platforms supporting scalable reporting and analytics solutions Proven ability to improve BI performance, reliability, usability, and adoption across large or complex datasets Strong knowledge of data governance, security, access controls, data quality, lineage, documentation, and report certification practices Experience supporting BI modernization, migration, rationalization, or standardization across enterprise reporting platforms Working knowledge of delivery practices such as Agile, source control, deployment pipelines, testing, and release management Excellent communication, stakeholder management, facilitation, and storytelling skills Demonstrated ability to mentor others, lead design discussions, influence standards, and collaborate effectively across functions Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Git, GitLab/GitHub, deployment pipelines, release management, Agile delivery, automated testing concepts Preferred Qualifications Experience with Visualization BI tools like Power BI, deployment pipelines Experience with MicroStrategy, BO, or legacy BI modernization and migration to Power BI Familiarity with AI-assisted analytics, natural language querying, automated insight generation, or BI productivity tools Python experience for automation, data validation, metadata extraction, or reporting operations Domain knowledge in financial services, investment data, asset management, or enterprise operations reporting Work Schedule & Location This role will work a hybrid schedule 3 days/week in our Baltimore, MD office.
