Job Description

Company:
Westmod Position:
Independent Contractor / Contract Engagement with
Potential Long-Term Full-Time Opportunity Focus:
Full-Stack Application Development, Product Architecture & Internal Business Systems Location:
Southern California / Remote or Hybrid Depending on Candidate
ABOUT THE ROLE
Westmod is looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Software Developer to help architect and build a proprietary internal software platform that will become a central part of how our company operates. This is not a maintenance role and we are not looking to simply recreate an existing CRM. This is a ground-up product build. We want to develop our own system specifically around how Westmod operates rather than forcing our processes into an off-the-shelf CRM or construction management platform. The platform will initially focus on two major areas: our sales pipeline and our construction/project management pipeline. The long-term vision is a centralized operating platform connecting sales, pre-construction, construction, customer communication, scheduling, reporting, documents, automation, and internal operations. This position will begin as a contract engagement, but our goal is to find someone who can become a long-term development partner and potentially grow into a full-time technical leadership role as the platform and Westmod's technology needs expand.
WHAT YOU'LL HELP BUILD
You will work directly with company leadership and our team to plan, architect, design, develop, test, deploy, and continually improve a custom web-based application for Westmod. Core functionality is expected to include: Sales CRM and lead management Sales pipeline and opportunity tracking Customer and project records Pre-construction and construction pipeline management Project stages, milestones, and status tracking Tasks, assignments, approvals, and internal workflows Construction schedules and project timelines Customer communication and activity history Customer-facing portal functionality Internal dashboards and executive reporting Company, sales, financial, and project reporting User accounts, roles, permissions, and access controls Document and information management Notifications and workflow automation Third-party API integrations AI-assisted workflows and intelligent automation Additional functionality and integrations as the platform evolves We are not looking to copy an existing CRM or construction management product. We want to build a platform around how Westmod actually operates and continually expand its capabilities over time.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Our ideal candidate is a senior, independent full-stack developer who has experience taking real software products from concept and architecture through deployment and continued development. You should be comfortable owning both front-end and back-end development and helping determine the best technical architecture for a platform intended to grow with the company.
You should be able to:
Architect and develop modern, scalable web applications Build polished front-end interfaces and robust back-end systems Design and manage relational and/or NoSQL databases Develop APIs and third-party integrations Build secure authentication, authorization, and role-based permission systems Translate real-world business processes into efficient software workflows Develop dashboards, analytics, and reporting functionality Design for data integrity, security, performance, and scalability Test, troubleshoot, deploy, monitor, and continually improve applications Make thoughtful architecture and technology-stack recommendations Communicate technical concepts clearly with a non-technical team Work independently while collaborating closely with company leadership Take ownership of problems rather than simply waiting for development tickets
AI, AUTOMATION & INTEGRATION EXPERIENCE
Westmod intends for AI and automation to become an important part of the platform over time. Experience with any of the following is a major plus:
AI/LLM API
integrations AI-assisted internal workflows Workflow automation Agentic or event-driven systems Third-party SaaS/API integrations Email, calendar, messaging, accounting, payment, document, or construction software integrations Building internal tools that reduce repetitive administrative work We are not necessarily looking for an AI specialist, but we do want a developer who understands where modern AI capabilities can create practical business value and can architect the platform with those future capabilities in mind.
BIG BONUS
UI/UX + WEB
DEVELOPMENT
We place a high value on design and user experience. A major advantage would be strong experience with: UI design UX design Modern web design Responsive front-end development Design systems and reusable component libraries Creating clean, intuitive dashboards and interfaces Website design and development We do not want our internal software to look or feel like outdated construction software. It should be modern, clean, fast, intuitive, visually refined, and enjoyable for our team to use every day. Someone who combines strong software engineering with strong product instincts and a good eye for design would be an especially strong fit.
THE TYPE OF PERSON WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for more than someone who simply waits for a list of development tickets. We want someone who can understand what we're trying to accomplish, ask intelligent questions, challenge assumptions when appropriate, identify better ways of doing things, and help turn our ideas and real-world workflows into a well-designed software product. You should be comfortable taking ownership, recommending solutions, identifying potential problems before they become expensive problems, and helping determine how the platform should evolve. We value someone who thinks like a product owner and architect in addition to being an excellent developer.
POSITION STRUCTURE
This position will begin as an independent contractor/contract engagement. Our objective is to find someone we can work with consistently as we build and expand the platform, not someone who builds an initial version and disappears. For the right person, there may be an opportunity to transition into a long-term or full-time position with Westmod and take increasing ownership of our internal technology platform. Location and working arrangement can be discussed based on the candidate. Southern California candidates who can occasionally collaborate with our team in person are a plus, but exceptional candidates outside the area will also be considered. Compensation will depend on experience, capabilities, availability, and engagement structure. Candidates should include their preferred hourly rate and/or proposed project structure when applying.
