Description As a Summer Intern in our Technology Department, you will gain first-hand experience working in our Application Development, Cybersecurity, or Infrastructure/Platform teams. These teams enable our business operations by building secure systems and platforms that provide employees and customers visibility into, and automation across, one of America's largest transportation logistics networks. In this role, you will have extensive contact with peers and interaction with senior leaders. You will have the opportunity to apply leadership, technical, and business skills to real-world projects while leveraging technologies and concepts such as software development, data networking, data science, and cybersecurity to solve problems and deliver value. This is a full-time summer internship based in Omaha, Nebraska. This opportunity requires in-person work in Omaha during the summer months (mid-May through early August). Union Pacific provides relocation stipends and housing accommodations for qualified students living more than 65 miles from Omaha. The estimated wage for this position is between $22 and $28 per hour. Final rate of pay will be based on several factors including year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Accountabilities

Learn and perform the core processes and work tasks required to build and support secure and highly available enterprise software applications and platforms

Participate in design sessions, sprint planning and code reviews

Track and maintain status of projects using tools such as JIRA

Build and strengthen a network of professional contacts within departments and across the company

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications - Required

Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or a related field

Completed, or will have completed by the internship start date, coursework equivalent to at least one year toward an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or a related field

Availability to work full-time in Omaha, Nebraska, during the summer internship program (mid-May through early August)

Basic organization and prioritization skills

Basic time and project management skills

Proficient verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications - Preferred

Experience in an object oriented programming language, such as Java, Python, or C++

Physical and Mental Job Requirements

This position requires extended periods of sitting and extended hours in front of computer screens

Maintains concentration, focuses on tasks and can make timely decisions
