Controls Programmer Apply Now Job Description:
Location:
Westbrook, Maine Controls Programmer I and II Westbrook, ME $30 - $40+ per hour + Overtime Approximately 20% Travel U.S. Persons Only (ITAR Compliance) We are seeking multiple Control Programmers I and II to join our clients engineering team in Westbrook, Maine. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry to mid-level controls professional looking to work with advanced automation systems, PLC programming, machine controls, and customer-driven solutions in a collaborative environment. If you enjoy problem-solving, programming, and hands-on machine automation, we'd love to speak with you.
Responsibilities:
Write, test, and debug PLC programs according to customer requirements and company standards Develop and program operator interface (HMI) systems Collaborate with mechanical and electrical technicians to ensure proper machine functionality Verify operation of switches, actuators, sensors, cylinders, servos, and other machine components Review machine sequences and functionality prior to programming Maintain project documentation including electrical drawings, parts lists, specifications, calibration records, and wire lists Assist in the creation and review of machine manuals Support equipment installation, startup, troubleshooting, and customer service activities Follow ISO procedures and quality standards Participate in continuous improvement initiatives Travel Requirements - Approximately 20% travel: 3 machine installations per year (1-2 weeks each) & 3-5 service trips per year (3-5 days each) Maximum continuous travel period is generally limited to 3 weeks through a programmer rotation schedule
Desired Background/Skills:
Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field, or equivalent experience Knowledge of PLC programming and ladder logic Understanding of PLC communications, networking, and device integration Familiarity with electrical systems including AC/DC circuits, E-Stop circuits, sensors, and servo/stepper motors Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and documentation Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other industrial PLC platforms Experience with HMI programming Previous machine automation or manufacturing systems experience Field service or machine startup experience
