CONTROLS ENGINEER
(PROGRAMMER) Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find an innovative Controls Engineer in Oklahoma City, OK. In this impactful and hands-on role, you will be responsible for taking complete ownership of custom machine controls throughout the entire project lifecycle—from initial concept and design through manufacturing, debugging, customer startup, and long-term support. In a Controls Engineer job you'll be responsible for: Designing and developing control systems for custom industrial machinery, including programming PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and safety controllers. Integrating electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motion control systems, followed by debugging and testing machinery during assembly. Leading machine startup, commissioning, installation, optimization, and troubleshooting activities at customer locations. Creating and maintaining software backups, configuration files, revision records, and technical documentation for operation and maintenance manuals. What you'll need: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, OR equivalent combination of education and hands-on controls experience. 5+ years of experience programming and commissioning industrial machinery, automation systems, or OEM equipment. Proven proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms (ControlLogix and CompactLogix) and HMI application development. Hands-on experience integrating variable frequency drives, motors, sensors, and industrial control devices. Strong troubleshooting abilities involving electrical controls, machine automation, and industrial networks, alongside the ability to read electrical schematics. Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25-50% domestically and occasionally internationally.Compensation, Schedule, and Benefits:
