Job Description

Whiz Kid Computers is looking for an In-Shop Computer Technician to join our team! Are you someone who enjoys working with computers, troubleshooting problems, and figuring out how technology works? Whether you are beginning your career in IT or already have hands-on experience repairing and troubleshooting computers, we want to hear from you. This is an in-person, Computer Technician position working Monday through Friday in our shop. You will work alongside experienced technicians while gaining hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, and servicing a variety of computers and technology for residential and business customers. We are willing to train the right candidate, but we are also looking for individuals who can bring some existing hands-on computer repair and troubleshooting skills to the team. Duties Meet with customers in person to understand the technology issues they are experiencing Ask appropriate questions and gather accurate information about customer concerns, symptoms, and troubleshooting already attempted Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and connectivity issues Perform computer repairs, upgrades, and component replacements Clearly explain completed repairs, resolutions, and any recommended next steps to customers Install and configure Windows operating systems, applications, and updates Perform virus and malware removal Perform data transfers, backups, and computer setups Set up and configure computers, printers, and other technology Test devices after repairs to ensure they are functioning properly Maintain accurate and detailed service notes Keep the shop, workstations, and equipment organized Assist senior technicians with more complex repairs and projects Follow company procedures and maintain a high standard of quality and customer service What We're Looking For CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent certification is required Candidates who do not currently hold an A+ or equivalent certification must obtain it within 90 days of their start date Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing computers is preferred Basic to intermediate knowledge of Windows operating systems and computer hardware Understanding of PC components, including RAM, storage, power supplies, motherboards, and peripherals Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Strong customer service and communication skills Ability to listen carefully, ask questions, and accurately understand a customer's technical issue Ability to explain technical concepts and solutions in a way that non-technical customers can understand Comfortable assisting customers directly and professionally in person Strong attention to detail Ability to learn new technologies, software, and procedures Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic Ability to work independently while also being a team player Comfortable working in a fast-paced service environment Previous professional IT or computer repair experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate Who Would Be a Good Fit? This position could be a great fit for someone who: Has completed an IT or computer-related program Has earned their CompTIA A+ certification Has experience repairing computers Has built or upgraded PCs Has hands-on experience diagnosing hardware or software problems Enjoys helping people solve technology problems Can communicate comfortably with customers who may have little or no technical knowledge Is looking to turn their technical knowledge into a career in IT Wants to continue developing their skills and work toward additional certifications We value curiosity, reliability, attention to detail, problem-solving, and a willingness to learn. You don't need to know everything on day one, but you should be comfortable getting hands-on with technology, asking questions, and learning how to solve problems you haven't encountered before.
