About the
Role:
Wing is looking for a Hardware Lab Support Engineer to join our Wing Engineering Labs team . This role is onsite based in Palo Alto, CA. As a Hardware Lab Support Engineer at Wing, you will provide hands-on fabrication, assembly, and operational support across our engineering prototyping labs. In this role, you will work closely with hardware engineers and senior machinists to fabricate test fixtures, assemble prototype aircraft components, and maintain a safe, highly functional lab environment. We are looking for an adaptive, detail-oriented builder who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced prototyping environment and takes pride in high-quality hardware execution.
What You'll Do:
Assemble and disassemble prototype aircraft subsystems, electromechanical assemblies, and test fixtures according to engineering schematics and build instructions. Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, blueprints, and assembly procedures to plan and execute component builds. Set up and operate manual and basic CNC shop equipment—including lathes, mills, drill presses, band saws, shears, and press brakes—to fabricate rapid prototype parts and fixtures. Inspect and verify dimensions of fabricated parts and assemblies using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges. Procure and maintain lab inventory, including raw materials, consumables, hardware stock, specialized tools, and safety supplies. Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant workshop environment by upholding lab safety protocols, 5S standards, and standard equipment maintenance schedules. Collaborate with cross-functional hardware, test, and flight operations teams to support urgent build requests and scheduled test campaigns.
What You'll Need:
3 years of relevant experience in a hardware engineering lab, machine shop, model shop, or prototyping environment. Associate degree, technical certification (e.g., Machining/Manufacturing Technology), Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience Hands-on experience with manual fabrication equipment (mills, lathes, drill presses, saws) and precision hand measuring tools (calipers, micrometers). Experience performing mechanical and electromechanical assembly and disassembly. Demonstrated knowledge of lab safety practices, hazardous material handling, and equipment maintenance standards.
