Temporary Duties & Responsibilities (• denotes Essential Functions): Provides assistance with defining user interface (UI) specifications based on best practices and in accordance with overall website design and requirements. Collaborates on developing UI and user experience (UX) with customers and document functional descriptions which describe the website to be developed and the business solution to any problems identified. Converts conceptual designs into visual mockups, wireframes, or prototypes. Assists with designing and implementing front end UIs for new and existing web applications and websites according to specifications while incorporating usability concepts and ADA requirements. Assists with the design, implementation, and support of page templates for use in the ITS-supported content management system (CMS). Assists with training and creating documentation for CMS users. Develops images and graphics in collaboration with web developers and/or content creators to support website designs Applies advanced graphic design theory, including hierarchy, color theory, and grid systems, to create intuitive UI components (e.g. custom icons, navigation menus, and call-to-action buttons) Follows and implements directives and guidance related to best practices from University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services. Ensures the consistent adoption, implementation, and enforcement of recommendations issued through University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Service. Keeps abreast of recommendations issued through University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Service, and takes timely action as needed. Assists with development, formulation, and documentation of operating procedures for Client Service and Operation Center (CSOC). Keeps current on rapid developments and emerging technologies by researching articles in trade journals, periodicals, technical manuals, newsletters, etc. and by attending classes, conferences, presentations and self-directed study methods. Other Duties As Assigned Minimum Qualifications Possession of a baccalaureate educational degree in Creative Media, Graphic Design, Computer Science or related field and 0 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for website and application design; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Functional knowledge of website and application design demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology. Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with web site and application design. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems in the area of website and application design. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. Demonstrated proficiency in creating visual mockups, wireframes, and/or prototypes using associated software (i.e. Figma, Sketch, Penpot, or Lunacy). Knowledge of user interface and user experience design. Functional knowledge of web content management systems (i.e. Wordpress, Drupal, Cascade, or similar). Knowledge of usability concepts and ADA requirements for web-based applications and websites. Knowledge of graphic design concepts and theory. Demonstrated proficiency in incorporating graphic designs into web sites to enhance the user interface. Ability to work a variable work schedule and to work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend, and/or holiday hours, as directed. Demonstrated ability to speak, read, comprehend, interpret, and write fluently in English. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies independently and in a timely manner using books, manuals and other resources. Desirable Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge and experience with higher education website design and development. Experience with visual mockups and design. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or similar graphic design software.
