Role Overview The Field Support Technician is an on-call, as-needed contract resource who provides onsite technical assistance at Uprise client locations throughout Portland and southern Maine. This is not a full-time role; assignments are scheduled based on client onsite needs. The technician completes approved field tasks such as workstation setup, hardware replacement, cabling, equipment checks, and remote-hands work, and documents the results clearly for the Managed Services team. The technician works from the assigned ticket, checklist, or technical direction provided by Uprise. When a task requires a change or decision outside that scope, the technician stops and escalates rather than making an unapproved change. What You Will Do
- Deploy and physically set up laptops, desktops, monitors, docks, keyboards, mice, and other standard workstation equipment.
- Perform approved hardware swaps and replacements, including workstations, peripherals, network devices, and other client equipment.
- Connect, disconnect, label, patch, and trace basic network and workstation cabling.
- Install or replace switches, access points, firewalls, or other network equipment when a documented plan and technical direction are provided by Uprise.
- Provide remote-hands support for Uprise engineers, including visual inspection, console access, cable checks, power cycling, reseating equipment, and reporting onsite conditions.
- Assist with ISP, carrier, copier, hardware, and other vendor visits when local technical presence is required.
- Perform equipment and asset inventory, capture serial numbers and labels, take clear photos, and document device and location details.
- Assist with printers, basic peripherals, conference-room equipment, and other common onsite device issues within documented procedures.
- Perform basic onsite troubleshooting to confirm power, cabling, connectivity, hardware state, and obvious physical faults.
- Move, stage, pack, unpack, ship, or receive IT equipment when included in the assigned work.
- Document completed work, findings, photos, serial numbers, and anything requiring follow-up in the assigned Uprise ticket or documentation system.
- Stop and escalate when the requested work differs from the approved scope, introduces risk, or requires a technical decision that has not been provided. Required Skills and Experience
- 2+ years of hands-on desktop support, field support, MSP support, or comparable IT experience.
- Comfortable setting up and troubleshooting Windows workstations, common peripherals, and basic macOS workstation issues.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking and the ability to identify common network equipment such as switches, access points, firewalls, patch panels, modems, and routers.
- Hands-on experience with Ethernet cabling, patching, cable tracing, and basic physical network troubleshooting.

- Strong onsite professionalism and the ability to work directly in client offices with minimal supervision.
- Clear written communication and documentation, including accurate notes and useful photos.
