This position focuses primarily on diagnosing and repairing desktop and laptop computers for residential and small-business customers. The ideal candidate has practical experience working on both Windows PCs and Apple Macs, can communicate technical issues clearly to customers, and takes pride in accurate, high-quality work. Up to 25 hours per week, depending on repair volume Starting pay: $20.00 per hour Introductory period: First 90 days Future opportunity: Potential for additional hours or advancement based on shop needs and performance Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, upgrade, and test desktop and laptop computers. Troubleshoot hardware, software, operating-system, performance, storage, boot, networking, malware, and peripheral issues. Repair and replace common components, including SSDs and hard drives, RAM, batteries, keyboards, displays, fans, power supplies, charging ports, and other computer hardware as appropriate. Work on both Windows PCs and Apple Mac computers. Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot Windows and macOS. Assist with data backup, migration, transfer, recovery, and basic privacy-conscious handling of customer files and credentials. Perform system cleanup, malware removal, operating-system reinstalls, and software configuration when needed. Complete clear diagnostics, repair notes, estimates, and customer-facing explanations. Communicate professionally with customers in person and by phone regarding diagnoses, repair recommendations, pricing, timelines, and completed work. Keep repair benches, tools, parts, and work areas clean, organized, and secure. Assist with general shop tasks as needed, including device intake, answering phones, parts organization, and routine cleaning. Required qualifications Hands-on professional, school, freelance, or substantial personal experience repairing desktop and laptop computers . Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing both Windows PCs and Apple Mac computers . Strong working knowledge of Windows and macOS , including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, updates, user accounts, startup issues, storage problems, and common software failures. Ability to diagnose hardware failures and safely disassemble, repair, reassemble, and test laptops and desktops. Familiarity with common PC and Mac components, including RAM, storage drives, batteries, keyboards, displays, cooling systems, power supplies, chargers, and networking hardware. Experience using standard computer-repair tools and diagnostic utilities. Ability to work carefully around customer data and maintain confidentiality. Strong attention to detail, organization, reliability, and follow-through. Clear customer-service and communication skills, including an ability to explain technical issues without unnecessary jargon.
