The work ranges from moving legacy infrastructure into the cloud to improving environments that are already running across Azure, AWS or a combination of cloud and on-premise systems. This is a senior technical position with regular client contact. You'll spend most of your time on architecture, migrations and technical project work rather than day-to-day help desk support. Current Project Work Depending on the client, you could be working on: Azure and AWS migration projects Hybrid cloud architecture Microsoft 365 and Azure integrations Infrastructure modernisation Identity and access management Cloud networking and security Backup and disaster recovery Infrastructure as code and automation Cost and performance reviews Containerised environments Projects normally involve an initial review of the existing environment, technical design, migration planning, implementation and handover to the support team. What You'll Handle Design cloud and hybrid infrastructure for client environments Assess existing servers, networks, applications and dependencies Produce migration plans and technical documentation Lead cloud migrations and infrastructure changes Configure and review security, identity and access controls Work with engineers during implementation and troubleshooting Review cloud usage, performance and ongoing costs Build automation using infrastructure-as-code tools Support backup, recovery and business continuity planning Provide technical input during client meetings and project reviews Review proposed solutions before they move into production Support technical scoping for new client projects Technical Background We're looking for someone who has already designed and delivered cloud infrastructure in a professional environment. Strong experience with Azure or AWS is required. Experience across both would be useful, but we don't expect someone to know every cloud platform equally well. Your background should include several of the following: Azure and/or AWS Windows Server and Linux Entra ID / Active Directory Virtual networks, VPNs, DNS and firewalls Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation or similar PowerShell, Python or other scripting Docker and Kubernetes CI/CD environments Monitoring and logging Cloud security and governance Backup and disaster recovery AWS, Microsoft or other relevant cloud certifications are useful but won't replace practical project experience. Working Week This is a full-time position, generally working Monday through Friday during standard business hours. Most project work is planned during the normal working week. Some migrations and infrastructure changes need to happen outside client operating hours, so occasional evening or weekend work should be expected. There may also be occasional travel to client sites depending on the project. Level of Responsibility You'll be trusted to make technical recommendations and explain the reasoning behind them. That includes telling a client when a proposed approach is unnecessarily expensive, introduces additional risk or simply isn't the best technical option. You'll work alongside cloud engineers, infrastructure specialists, project managers and client IT teams rather than operating as a standalone architect.
