Supervisor - Controls Systems Engineering

Posted March 12, 2026 Position Overview The Controls Systems Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading the development of electronic control systems used in automotive and commercial vehicle applications. This role oversees a team of controls engineers working on embedded system design, ECU software development, system integration, testing, and validation. The position ensures that control system hardware, software, and calibration activities meet safety, performance, and reliability requirements while supporting the full product development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
Supervises and develops a team responsible for control strategies, embedded software development, and system integration.
Provides technical leadership for ECU programming, control system architecture, user interface design, and system-level testing.
Guides continuous improvement efforts, employee development, and engineering best practices.
Defines system requirements and technical specifications for automotive control system features.
Manages development and delivery of integrated hardware, software, and calibration activities through a structured development process.
Establishes and maintains engineering standards, documentation requirements, and controls procedures.
Leads DFMEA activities and oversees validation testing at SIL, HIL, component, and vehicle levels.
Supports development of advanced sensing and control technologies used in vehicle systems.
Creates and executes DVP&R plans and ensures proper test documentation and reporting.
Serves as the primary technical contact for internal stakeholders on controls strategy, system design decisions, and technology roadmaps.
Oversees development of software validation tools and model-based design workflows using tools such as MATLAB and Simulink.
Qualifications
Bachelors or masters degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of experience developing automotive or commercial vehicle control systems.
Hands-on experience with embedded control systems, ECU development, and model-based design workflows.
Experience with SIL, HIL, component-level, and vehicle-level validation testing.
Proficiency in C-based software development or model-based application development.
Strong background in control system design, state machine development, and safety-critical embedded systems.
Experience with vehicle network architectures and communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
Familiarity with wireless communication protocols such as Bluetooth, WiFi, or RF systems is preferred.
Knowledge of relevant automotive standards including functional safety and digital communication specifications.
Experience using data acquisition and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Vector CANoe, or dSpace.
Previous experience managing engineering teams or leading cross-functional technical efforts.
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in fast-paced development environments.
Demonstrated ability to work with senior engineering leadership and external technical partners.
