Purpose of Position The DevOps Manager proactively and holistically leads and supports architecture/engineering activities that guide the development and management of technical Engineering and Simulation infrastructure solutions. These solutions enable the organization's future-state business capabilities and drive the organization's targeted business outcomes. Technologies include Simulation stack technology matching IT data center, infrastructure, cloud, mobile, AI, Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, edge computing, and immersive experiences technologies. In addition, the DevOps Manager ensures deliverables that help develop target-state guidance (reusable standards, guidelines, individual parts, platforms, and configurations) for evolving the technical infrastructure across the enterprise to enable business strategy and deliver targeted business outcomes related to modern full flight simulation development, security, and operations.
Tasks and Responsibilities Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and coach a high-performing team of engineers, directly managing performance, career growth, and daily technical execution (5+ years required experience).
DevOps & SRE Advocacy:
Promote DevOps principles, automated workflows, and a Site Reliability Engineering culture across the engineering organization.
On-Call & Support Leadership:
Oversee Level 1 support, manage the monitoring of customer-facing systems, and coordinate 24/7 on-call rotation activities.
Enterprise Operations:
Architect, operate, and maintain on prem and cloud infrastructure supporting high-volume, business-critical enterprise applications (5+ years' experience required).
Database Systems:
3+ years of experience working with database architectures including
SQL, AWS
RDS, Oracle SQL, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch.
CI/CD Pipelines:
Proven experience designing and building continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines, preferably using Azure DevOps or GitLab .
Fundamentals:
Hands-on proficiency with Git fundamentals and scripting languages (Bash, Python, or equivalent).
Minimum Education Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience.
Compliance:
Direct experience implementing and maintaining systems within highly regulated frameworks, specifically SOX, PCI-DSS, or NIST Compliance .
Minimum Experience Management:
5+ years managing direct reports within an engineering or operations environment.
Systems & Software:
5+ years of experience managing core operating systems (Windows, RedHat, CentOS, Amazon Linux), web servers (Nginx, Apache), and modern software packages (Terraform, Bash, Sh).
Observability & Analytics:
5+ years of experience integrating monitoring, alerting, and reporting tools (NewRelic, Akamai, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Prometheus) into new and existing systems.
Microservices & Containers:
3+ years of experience implementing and supporting microservices using containers and orchestrators (Docker, Kubernetes, DockerSwarm, Rancher, or Terraform).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities SDLC & DevOps:
Deep understanding of software development life cycle methodologies (Agile, DevOps) and IT compliance standards.
Networking Protocols:
Solid understanding of the
OSI/TCP-IP
models and networking protocols (IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, QoS).
Security & Architecture:
Developed understanding of secure network architecture, information principles, and infrastructure design.
CI/CD & Automation:
Proven experience building automated CI/CD workflows, configuration management, and release processes.
Coding & Scripting:
Proficiency in one or more programming languages alongside strong automation scripting skills.
Testing & Deployment:
Practical experience with development platforms and Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
Communication & Collaboration:
Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills for teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
Analysis & Troubleshooting:
Strong analytical skills to investigate technical data, draw conclusions, and resolve complex issues.
Organization & Logistics:
Excellent planning and organizational capabilities, with the flexibility to travel when required.
