Your Community's College Toggle navigation Home Search Jobs Log In /Create Account Help Cyber & Network Security Assistant (Federal Work Study) Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this Job Posting Details Position Information Job Title Cyber & Network Security Assistant (Federal Work Study) Job Description The Cyber & Network Security Technician supports campus cybersecurity and network security operations through monitoring, incident support, vulnerability management tasks, and documentation. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience aligned with entry-level cybersecurity and SOC career paths. This position works directly with a System Analyst 2 and System Specialist 1. Essential Duties Summary Cybersecurity Operations
  • Monitor and review security alerts from endpoint, firewall, or SIEM tools
  • Perform initial triage of low-risk security events and escalate as needed
  • Assist with phishing investigation and response procedures
  • Maintain security documentation and runbooks Network Security Support
  • Assist with basic network troubleshooting and connectivity issues
  • Support reviews of firewall rules, VLANs, and access controls
  • Verify secure configurations on devices and endpoints
  • Maintain network and asset inventories Vulnerability & Compliance Assistance
  • Assist with vulnerability scans and results review
  • Track remediation efforts and risk logs
  • Support MFA , password, and endpoint compliance checks Endpoint & User Security
  • Support endpoint protection tools (AV/ EDR alerts)
  • Assist with patch verification and device security checks
  • Promote cybersecurity best practices to end users Ticketing & Documentation
  • Log and update tickets in the IT service management system
  • Document findings and actions taken
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data Required Qualifications
  • Interest in cybersecurity or network security
  • Basic understanding of networking and operating systems
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework in Cybersecurity, IT, or Computer Science
  • Familiarity with firewalls, SIEM , or Active Directory
  • Interest in CompTIA Security+, Network+, or CySA+ Physical Demands Special Conditions Eligibility Summary Students must have completed a current year's FAFSA , be eligible for Federal Financial Aid, be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) at South Piedmont Community College, be making Satisfactory Academic Progress ( GPA of 2.
