The Department of Surgery (DOS) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a highly motivated Researcher to join the Division of Health Data Science (HDS). The successful candidate will participate in research projects focused on artificial intelligence, biomedical informatics, computer vision, and health data science. The Visiting Student Researcher will collaborate with faculty, research staff, and students to develop novel computational methods for analyzing biomedical and clinical data. This position provides excellent opportunities to gain research experience in machine learning, medical image analysis, multimodal foundation models, and clinical AI while working in a highly collaborative academic environment. Position is a temporary, 2-year position Duties/Responsibilities Research and AI Model Development (50%) Assist with data preprocessing and cleaning for biomedical research projects Run and maintain existing AI/ML codebases and document experimental results Conduct computational experiments using large-scale biomedical datasets. Project Development and Data Analysis (20%) Assist in the development of new research projects and perform literature reviews Support the development and testing of machine-learning models under supervision Scientific Writing and Dissemination (20%) Conduct literature searches and summarize relevant publications for ongoing projects Assist with preparing figures, tables, technical reports, and other research materials Present research findings through presentations, posters, and written reports. Collaboration and Other Research Activities (10%) Collaborate with faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and research staff on interdisciplinary projects. Participate in lab meetings and perform other research-related duties as assigned. The Division of Health Data Science is a newly established division within the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota.
