Job Description

The Senior SQL Server & Azure Database Administrator performs advanced technical work across database administration, application development support, and database operations. The role supports the full application development lifecycle, including planning, design, development, implementation, data migration, quality assurance, data cleanup, and data administration. It also covers database security, availability, monitoring, performance optimization, SQL software installation and configuration, and service pack installation.
Senior SQL Server & Azure Database Administrator Remote Interview:
Preferably in person, but the manager may do it virtually via Teams. Long-Term Contract Key Responsibilities Provide operational SQL database and database server administration support for critical production systems. Maintain the overall health, availability, reliability, and quality of database services. Conduct database health checks, identify performance issues, and recommend improvements. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL Server and Azure SQL database performance and availability. Install, configure, secure, back up, and maintain SQL Server and Azure SQL database solutions. Deploy SQL database solutions in Azure and secure Azure SQL resources and data. Integrate Azure SQL resources with other Azure services to support enterprise applications and data solutions. Migrate and upgrade SQL databases from legacy servers and SQL versions to new servers and versions. Support the migration of on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL. Design programs to extract, cleanse, transform, load, and validate data between source systems during migrations. Provide database design support by assessing requirements and defining, developing, and creating databases. Design, develop, and maintain logical and physical database models based on business and technical requirements. Review and validate data models and data dictionaries for compliance with organizational standards. Develop and maintain database structures, including tables, relationships, and normalization, to protect data integrity, improve efficiency, and reduce redundancy. Deploy and maintain database schema changes across test and production environments. Provide technical support for the PSP Data Warehouse, Data Marts, and Power BI environments in collaboration with the Lead Power BI Administrator. Meet with developers, business stakeholders, and vendors to gather requirements, provide consulting support, and recommend appropriate database architectures, configurations, and solutions. Coordinate database backup and restore requests with the backup administration team. Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve technical support issues. Assist with coordinating software releases. Professional Expectations Drive ongoing process improvement. Apply strong knowledge of data analysis and database management techniques. Perform responsibilities with minimal direct supervision from the Team Lead. Estimate and schedule assigned work, resolve issues promptly, and complete tasks on time. Identify and track issues, risks, and action items. Manage work activities and provide clear status updates. Follow established database standards. Work effectively in a team environment. Provide high-quality, professional customer service. Required Qualifications 7 years of SQL Server database administration experience. 4 years of database administration experience supporting production servers. 3 years of data analytics experience. 1 year of Azure database administration experience. 1 year of data warehouse experience. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality, professional customer service. Desired Qualifications Business systems analysis and design experience. Experience with Microsoft SQL high availability and Always On technologies. Power BI administration experience is highly desired. Engagement Details Local candidates in the Harrisburg, PA area are preferred. The current purchase order is funded through June 30, 2027; this date must be used in the RTR. The final contract end date will depend on the approved schedule and projected needs. Historically, additional funding is expected to cover July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028.
