DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Global Construction Principal. This role requires a proven construction expert who can bridge design and construction phases, ensuring our innovative, modular and accelerated delivery approaches are practical, cost-effective, and executable in the field. As our Global Construction Principal, you will be a key technical expert to help shape the future of AWS data centers across our global fleet. This role combines deep technical and practical expertise with strategic influence, as you'll provide oversight on the design and construction of data centers that safeguard the critical infrastructure powering millions of AWS customers worldwide. You'll work at the intersection of traditional stick build and modular data centers, solving unique constructability challenges that come with AWS's unprecedented scale and growth. Key job responsibilities
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts, construction sequencing issues, and field execution challenges before they impact schedule or budget
  • Provide insight into construction challenges, whether technical, contractual or practical, and provide guidance to mitigate identified resolution
  • Develop and implement constructability standards and best practices
  • Partner with Design Engineering, Construction Management, and General Contractors to optimize designs for field execution
  • Serve as the primary construction subject matter expert during design development, providing real-time feedback on constructability, means and methods, and schedule impacts
  • Review and validate design assumptions against field realities, material availability, and labor market conditions
  • Drive value engineering initiatives that maintain quality while improving construction efficiency and reducing costs
  • Resolve complex technical challenges that span multiple disciplines or require innovative construction approaches
  • Lead root cause analysis for constructability issues and implement systemic improvements
  • Work closely with Design Engineering teams to influence design decisions based on construction expertise
  • Partner with Construction Management to ensure smooth handoffs from design to construction
  • Engage with General Contractors and trade partners to gather field insights and validate constructability solutions

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
  • Experience communicating clearly and concisely with leadership, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of hands-on construction experience in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical facilities
  • 5+ years of experience in constructability review, design-build, or design-construction integration roles
  • Deep understanding of construction means and methods across multiple trades including structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Extensive understanding of contracting frameworks and contractual processes, including proven expertise in issue and conflict resolutionPreferred Qualifications
  • Experience in construction of data center delivery (design, commissioning and construction), mission critical facilities, or equivalent industrial/manufacturing facility builds
  • Background in modular construction, prefabrication, or Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA)
  • Familiarity with accelerated delivery methods and schedule compression techniques
  • Experience working in integrated project delivery or design-build environments

Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
