BASIC PURPOSE
The Director of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) is responsible for the management and innovative leadership of CIS credit programs (degree and certificate) and integration with related non-credit programming. These programs Cloud Computing, Computer Networking and Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Interactive Media - Game Design, Software Engineering, and Web Development and Design. In collaboration with the Director of Workforce Development for IT, the Director will ensure alignment of credit and non-credit programs with market and industry needs. The Director will supervise full-time and part-time CIS faculty. Working closely with students, faculty, staff, administration, and the CIS Advisory Board, the Director will ensure market relevance of all CIS programs and assist in the development of new programs and the modification of current programs. In addition to ensuring the smooth operation of all CIS programs, the Director will develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including local businesses, colleges and universities, and career and technical high schools. •This position requires the new hire to submit the child abuse clearance, the PA State Police check, and FBI fingerprint results to Human Resources prior to their first day of employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees, coordinates, and manages all credit Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) programs. Using best available data, works diligently to ensure student success, retention, and completion of CIS programs. Works in collaboration with the CIS faculty, Dean of STEM, and Director of Workforce Development for IT to propose and develop new programs and courses as well as modify the CIS curricula to ensure currency and market value. Conducts environmental scans and other research to determine market needs and current professional practices. Develops an annual schedule of CIS course offerings that meets the needs of students and CIS programs. Makes course assignment recommendations to the Dean based on the assignment protocol in the faculty union contract. Assists the Registrar's office in room scheduling. Ensures proper learning materials are assigned for CIS courses. Identifies, researches, evaluates, and recommends instructional resources necessary for successful program delivery while operating within approved budget levels. In collaboration with the Dean of STEM and the College Foundation, identifies viable resource development initiatives, including Perkins funding and external grants. Works closely with Director of Workforce Development for IT to ensure seamless and logical integration of credit and workforce CIS programs. In partnership with the Admissions, Enrollment Services, and Marketing and Communications offices, participates in student recruitment activities and assists in the marketing of CIS programs. Works closely with the Dean and the Director of Workforce Development for IT in promoting new and existing programs. Acts as liaison with IT on issues relating to the computer labs. Facilitates the resolution of student, faculty, and/or staff issues. In coordination with the Dean of STEM, recruits, hires, supervises, evaluates, and develops full-time and part-time CIS faculty. Under the direction of the Dean of STEM, coordinates the activities of the Computer and Information Sciences Advisory Committee, including recommendations for membership. Provides leadership and/or support for partnership initiatives. Identifies and coordinates partnership opportunities for scholarships, equipment, internships, etc. Acts as liaison with external partners and provides internal coordination of initiatives. Cultivates relationships with other colleges and universities offering CIS programs to maintain existing and explore new articulation agreements and other collaborative efforts. Participates in continuing professional development to expand knowledge of educational methodologies and maintain expertise in the professional discipline. Serves on College Committees as assigned. Establishes a culture of respect, hard work, consistency, and effective communication. Demonstrates leadership and ability to think critically in managing the variety of situations which impact upon the program and its operation. Teaches courses within areas of expertise as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, STEM Education, or related field. At least three years teaching experience. Experience teaching undergraduate STEM courses preferred. At least five years' experience in computer science, information technology, STEM, or educational administration/leadership/management. Excellent management, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Exhibited evidence of continued professional growth and development. Industry recognized certification(s). Demonstrated administrative experience including program planning, personnel management, and fiscal management. Demonstrated commitment to work with diverse populations, such as under-resourced groups and first-generation students. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy. Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of software as related to position requirements. Demonstrated ability to work within a team-oriented setting. Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multitask.
