Yes Build Your GIS Experience in the Public Sector We are seeking a detail-oriented Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician to support a local government Information Technology team. This is an excellent opportunity for a GIS professional looking to expand their hands-on experience working with Esri technology, spatial data, mapping, geodatabases, and municipal information . You'll work with real-world geographic data and help create and maintain mapping resources used to support City operations and services. Previous experience working for a government agency, municipality, or school district is preferred but not required . Candidates with strong GIS education and relevant technical experience are encouraged to apply. What You'll Do As a GIS Technician, you'll assist with the creation, maintenance, analysis, and quality control of geographic and spatial information.
Responsibilities may include:
Create, edit, update, and maintain GIS layers, maps, geodatabases, and spatial datasets Produce maps and other GIS products to support City departments and projects Collect, interpret, and integrate spatial data from multiple sources Perform data conversion, editing, digitizing, and quality-control checks Work with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online Review and interpret engineering drawings, survey notes, legal descriptions, and record maps Work with land-based information including parcels, rights-of-way, easements, and municipal boundaries Assist with GPS and field data collection activities Help ensure GIS information is accurate, organized, and up to date Communicate and coordinate with City staff, outside agencies, and members of the public as needed What We're Looking ForEducation Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Geography Computer Science Or a closely related field A GIS certificate or relevant GIS coursework may substitute for up to one year of the required experience. Experience At least one year of technical experience working with: GIS software Spatial data Mapping applications GIS data editing and maintenance Experience within a government agency, municipality, public agency, or school district is a plus, but not required. Technical Skills Ideal candidates will have knowledge or experience with: Esri ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Online GIS principles, practices, terminology, and cartography Spatial data analysis Geodatabase design Relational database concepts SQL GIS data conversion, editing, and digitizing Data quality control GPS concepts and field data collection Parcels, easements, rights-of-way, and municipal boundaries Mapping-related mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry Python or other GIS scripting/automation experience is a plus!
