Job Description

Under general direction of the Storey County Assessor, the incumbent is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, overseeing, and coordinating technical work, policies, strategic planning, and other duties in the administration of the county's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) systems. This position works with a high level of independence and autonomy implementing, managing, and coordinating the county's enterprise GIS systems within the Storey County Assessor's Office. The position provides technical leadership and guidance related to GIS functions and may be assigned lead or supervisory responsibilities. Any combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent education; An Associate's or Bachelor's degree with emphasis in geography, GIS, cartography, land surveying, or closely related field may be preferred; Eight (8) years of progressively responsible GIS experience, entering and managing data, manipulating shapefiles, maintaining GIS databases, and producing finished GIS products; Experience providing technical leadership, project coordination, training, or lead direction is preferred; Five (5) years of experience working in a state or local government or another public sector environment is preferred; Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada Class C Driver License. Ability to pass a criminal background investigation. Military experience applicable to the duties of this position may be preferred.
