GIS Analyst - II Daniels Associates, Inc. - 4.0 Indianapolis, IN Job Details Full-time 14 hours ago Qualifications Teamwork Enterprise software SQL Bachelor's degree Data analytics GIS software Database software proficiency Full Job Description GIS Analyst II Role Summary The GIS Analyst II supports enterprise GIS operations through geospatial data management, quality assurance, workflow optimization, and GIS application support. The role is expected to operate independently identifying next steps, prioritizing work, and communicating proactively without requiring close oversight, and keeping pace with the modernization of the City/County GIS platforms and workflows. The GIS Analyst II works closely with GIS Developers, System Administrators, City/County personnel, and other analysts to maintain core municipal datasets, implement standardized workflows, and support operational GIS applications, including tier 2 application support. The Analyst II operates with increasing autonomy, supports moderate to complex projects, contributes to automation, and begins mentoring junior staff. Key Responsibilities Core Data Maintenance & Management Maintain and update core geospatial datasets, including streets, municipal boundaries, and city/county datasets, preserving data relationships using topology rules, attribute rules, relationship classes, contingent values, and related enterprise geodatabase tools. Design, implement, and monitor enterprise data governance standards. Lead data quality improvement initiatives and address systemic issues in datasets rather than recurring one-off fixes. Data Analysis & Workflow Automation Conduct spatial analysis to support operational, planning, and cross-agency projects. Investigate GIS issues independently, determine root cause, and bring forward options or a recommendation rather than an open-ended problem. Develop and maintain scripts and tools to automate GIS workflows (Python, SQL, ModelBuilder, Arcade). Assist with schema transformations, data migration, and integration projects. GIS Application Support & Configuration Configure and maintain web maps, dashboards, web applications, surveys, and ArcGIS Online/Enterprise Portal content. Troubleshoot GIS application issues and support enterprise users, owning issues through resolution. Develop standard operating procedures for enterprise workflows. Project Leadership & Collaboration Participate in cross-agency project planning, data collection, and reporting. Lead small GIS projects or sub-projects under guidance of senior staff, owning outcomes rather than just assigned tasks. Distinguish between what a stakeholder asks for and what they actually need and recommend the appropriate solution. Documentation & Process Improvement Document workflows, editing procedures, analytical methods, and project processes. Maintain organized data management practices and metadata. Identify opportunities to improve workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance data quality. Contribute to shared technical standards and cross-training so institutional knowledge isn't held by one person. Collaboration & Communication Provide concise, unprompted status updates on project progress, findings, blockers, and recommendations. Participate in team meetings and cross-agency discussions. Begin mentoring junior analysts and interns. Learn and apply new GIS platforms, tools, and workflows as the enterprise environment evolves. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or related field. GIS certificate plus work experience, or 4-5 years of GIS experience (including internships and professional roles). Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro 3.x and ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise Portal. Understanding of geospatial data concepts, including coordinate systems, attribute data, and geodatabase structures. Basic scripting or automation experience (Python, SQL, or ModelBuilder). Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Technical certifications:
ArcGIS Pro Associate, ArcGIS Pro Professional, ArcGIS Online Administration Associate, or ArcGIS API for Python Associate.
Professional certifications:
