Job Description
Actively seeking multiple entry level GIS technicians. Will analyze geographic information about the earth's surface and its objects, providing technical and analytical support in areas such as environmental management, exploration and mining, land ownership and titles, urban and regional planning, utilities and asset management, and demographic marketing. You will work with GIS software to create and maintain databases and maps, meeting with users to define data needs and project requirements. Responsibilities Work as a member of the Pole Transfer/Joint Use Make Ready Team for in-field GIS data collection. Make informed in-field design suggestions based on collected data. Use telescoping hasting sticks and digital measuring technologies to measure joint use attachment heights and utility-owned distribution lines. Collect field data using proprietary software to update utilities GIS and make design determinations. Manage equipment effectively and remain in varying field conditions for multiple hours each day. Compile geographic data from sources like censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, and aerial photographs. Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports. Enter new map data using cartography principles including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales. Essential Skills Proficiency in GIS software, specifically Esri's ArcGIS suite. Experience with in-field data collection. Understanding of cartography principles. General computer skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, GIS, or any related environmental or technical degree 0-1 year of experience in GIS or environmental space Familiarity with ArcMap or ArcGIS Previous outdoor field experience, such as internships or academic projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
