Technical Director First United Methodist Church — Murfreesboro, Tennessee First United Methodist Church is seeking a Technical Director to provide leadership, oversight, and strategic planning for the church's worship technology and production environments. This part-time position ensures that worship services and special events are technically excellent, reliable, and distraction-free across both the Sanctuary and Family Life Center . The Technical Director oversees audio, video, lighting, presentation systems, livestreaming, media playback, production networking, equipment, technical workflows, and volunteer production teams . The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical professional who can both operate and troubleshoot a wide range of production systems while also developing volunteers and planning for the church's long-term technology needs. Key Responsibilities Oversee the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of worship technology systems in the Sanctuary and Family Life Center. Support audio, video, lighting, presentation, livestream, networking, and other production systems. Research and recommend equipment, system upgrades, and technology improvements. Develop project plans for equipment replacement and technology upgrades and coordinate installations with vendors or contractors as needed. Assist with technology budgeting, purchasing, and long-term planning. Recruit, train, and develop volunteer technical team members. Create training materials, technical documentation, and operating procedures. Provide technical support for worship services, concerts, conferences, seasonal productions, and other church events across the campus. Maintain organized, clean, and professional technical and production spaces. Work collaboratively with the Pastor of Worship and Music, worship committees, staff, and volunteer teams. Qualifications At least three years of hands-on live-production experience in worship, broadcast, theater, concerts, corporate events, or a comparable environment. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor's degree in audio production, broadcast technology, media production, technical theater, information technology, worship technology, or a related field preferred. Experience working with both PC and Mac platforms. Working knowledge of major production technology areas, including audio, video, lighting, presentation, livestreaming, media playback, communication systems, and production networking. Ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and integrate interconnected technical systems in a live environment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and complete weekly preparation with minimal supervision. Availability for Sunday morning worship, rehearsals, and scheduled worship services, including seasonal and special services. Preferred Qualifications IT experience or background. Experience with Wi-Fi and networking systems. Ability to assist with classroom AV and other technology needs across the church.

Schedule & Compensation Part-time:

15-20 hours per week

Compensation:

$25,000-$30,000 annually Regular Sunday morning commitment: approximately 7:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Additional hours coordinated with the Pastor of Worship and Music and/or Director of Modern Worship. No travel is expected. Physical Requirements The position requires the ability to lift and move music and sound equipment, sit and/or stand for extended periods, operate technical equipment for prolonged periods, navigate stairs and backstage areas, and work in environments with amplified music and live performances.

Reports to Pastor of Worship and Music Church Collaboration The Technical Director works in collaboration with the church's worship leadership and committees, including the Love Him Team, Modern Worship Committee, Traditional Worship Committee, and Early Worship Committee .
