This is an onsite position supporting the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA). This is a fast-paced work environment that offers the opportunity to utilize hands-on experience with a variety of enterprise IT solutions to solve mission-critical problems supporting the US government. The Systems Administrator is responsible for the provisioning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure supporting USCGA. This role ensures system hardware, operating systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and security standards across a mixed Windows and Linux environment. Responsibilities Provision, install, configure, operate, and maintain enterprise systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure, ensuring system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and security standards. Perform operating system administration across Windows and Red Hat Linux environments. Install, configure, and patch server operating systems. Create and administer Microsoft 365 accounts, including Active Directory and user access management. Implement security patches and respond to identified vulnerabilities. Develop and maintain system images tailored to specific user groups. Qualifications
REQUIRED
Active Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain. Demonstrated proficiency with Windows Server and Linux distributions. Proficiency with the Microsoft portfolio, including MS Forms, Power Apps, and Power Automate. Strong hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting skills. Scripting experience using platforms such as PowerShell. Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and VPN configurations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Candidate must be able to function in a general office and data/server room environment. The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time, with regular movement around USCGA facilities required to support end users and server/network equipment. The person in this position must have the ability to lift and move IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
