Job Description
Overview Empowering Technology Solutions (ETS) is hiring a Systems Administrator in Waterloo, Iowa. This is an onsite role at a customer location 100% of the time. While working from the client's office, you will spend roughly 60% of your time supporting that client's users and environment, and roughly 40% supporting other ETS customers remotely (from the client site). You will be a high-trust representative of ETS—professional, calm, and accountable. This role is ideal for a Systems Administrator who can handle hands-on support, think in systems, and deliver clarity: solve the issue, communicate well, and reduce recurrence. What You'll Do Provide expert technical support across a broad range of technologies: hardware, software, Microsoft 365, identity, networking, backups, and security tooling. Troubleshoot and resolve escalated service issues remotely and onsite; communicate clearly with customers throughout. Administer and improve SMB environments (Windows Server, AD/Entra ID, DNS/DHCP, Microsoft 365, Intune). Support network and firewall environments (WAN/LAN, VLANs, VPNs, routing/switching fundamentals, Wi-Fi). Assist with implementing technical solutions and improvements (standardization, monitoring, prevention work, lifecycle upgrades). Document work thoroughly (ticket notes, environment details, runbooks/KB updates) so the next interaction is faster and cleaner. Collaborate with service leadership, Service Delivery Coordinators, and project resources to ensure smooth handoffs and strong customer outcomes. Required Qualifications 3+ years of professional IT experience (MSP/managed IT strongly preferred). Strong understanding of SMB infrastructure and modern work environments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users. Strong organization, time management, and ability to balance multiple priorities; comfortable with time tracking. High accountability and follow-through (you verify, you close the loop, you don't pass uncertainty downstream). Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for onsite client visits. Ability to work in-person in Waterloo, IA, Monday-Friday 8-5 (local time). Preferred MSP tools experience (examples): PSA/ticketing + documentation platforms (e.g., ConnectWise Manage, IT Glue), RMM tools, Microsoft tooling. Experience in healthcare or government environments Experience with common MSP technologies such as: Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint/OneDrive), Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, Conditional Access Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2019/2022, AD, DNS/DHCP VPNs (SSL/IPSec), firewalls, switching/routing, Wi-Fi Virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V) and Azure-hosted environments Backup/BCDR platforms (Axcient/Datto, Acronis) Security tooling (Sophos and similar endpoint/email security platforms)
