  • Internship Program
  • The 10-week Estée Lauder Engineering, Packaging, and R D Intern Program combines an overview of the cosmetics industry with meaningful, hands-on experience.

Interns will collaborate with scientists and cross-functional teams on projects that support established R D goals and business objectives. Within the Special Analytical Services - Formula Support laboratory, the intern will gain exposure to analytical chemistry, laboratory instrumentation, formulation support, and scientific problem-solving. The intern will also have the opportunity to work on an individual project, with guidance from a mentor, and present their learnings and results at the end of the internship.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Support scientists with analytical testing of cosmetic raw materials, formulations, and finished products.

+ Assist with sample preparation, laboratory experiments, data collection, and documentation.

+ Gain exposure to analytical chemistry techniques such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Karl Fischer titration, and wet chemistry.

+ Learn about Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), electronic nose technology, and basic data interpretation.

+ Conduct background research and assist with developing an experimental plan for an assigned project.

+ Perform experiments and organize results with support from a scientist or mentor.

+ Review data, identify observations or trends, and contribute to project conclusions.

+ Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow applicable safety procedures and laboratory guidelines.

+ Prepare a final summary and presentation describing the project, approach, results, and key learnings.

+ Communicate project updates and findings clearly to laboratory colleagues and management.

+ Use Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, to document and present information

  • Qualifications
  • + Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

+ Coursework or introductory laboratory experience in chemistry or analytical chemistry preferred.

+ Interest in learning about analytical instruments, cosmetic formulations, and laboratory research.

+ Willingness to learn new techniques and follow established procedures.

+ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with support from a mentor or supervisor.

+ Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.

+ Good written and verbal communication skills.

+ Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
