Job Description

Position Summary Responsible for planning, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining server and workstation infrastructure including virtualization platform(s), network storage systems, and the operating system and application software running on them. Works with IT Tech II personnel to manage group policy, maintenance scripts, monitoring systems, and software update systems. Works with director to plan technology upgrade pathway for compute and storage units based on measured usage. Position Accountabilities Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Configures, deploys and maintains new server hardware and applications. Proactively researches and makes recommendations on server administration tools and monitoring systems. Assists level 1 and 2 technicians with problems related to server, storage, and virtualization systems. Provide technical assistance to IT staff and end-users including interpretation of system specifications. Provide end-user training and support for systems such as PACS, Spark, Exchange, Remote Desktop Services, print services, group policy management, AD domain services, PKI, and WSUS. Ensures prompt feedback to helpdesk requests escalated to server administration queue. Check server backup logs daily to ensure compliance with backup

per application or system. Check backup targets daily for available space and file-level consistency. Maintains server data inventory in a format suitable for use in compliance reporting. Manages security and rights on file shares or domain namespaces. Audits ACLs to ensure appropriate configuration. Provides instruction and documents processes for proper ACL configuration when necessary. Establishes and audits user accounts, user storage environments, directories, and security; performs random checks to ensure hospital policies are followed and reports violations to supervisor or department director. Advises on purchase of, plan deployment of, and manage virtual resources including host hardware / hypervisor operating system / VM management system, and access control. Develops policies and creates knowledge base articles to facilitate IT team operation and maintenance of server infrastructure. Works with network administrator to manage vendor-specific and server-specific vlans and edge firewalls. Implements and monitors environmental controls to ensure server rooms are within required temperature and humidity ranges. Maintains software updates systems for workstations. Reports regularly on update status. Updates server operating systems as required. Loads and updates server software applications as required. Works with product vendors to coordinate purchase of hardware and software. Maintains appropriate records, and works with vendors when necessary for returns / RMA including data sanitization. Attends technical conferences, classes, and seminars to keep abreast of new software and hardware product developments. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Attends meetings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
