Boulder, CO 80301. We are seeking a Mainframe Systems Developer for a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity supporting print-related research and development work in Boulder, CO. This role is ideal for a detail-driven software engineer who enjoys solving complex systems challenges, working close to the platform, and contributing to reliable mainframe print processes. This position offers the opportunity to join a highly skilled technical team in a collaborative R D environment with supportive leadership, strong peer knowledge sharing, and meaningful work tied to system performance and product quality. You will have the chance to contribute to design discussions, improve existing workflows, troubleshoot root-cause issues, and build solutions that support long-term stability and efficiency. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test, debug, and support print-related software products on mainframe platforms.
• Investigate technical issues, identify root causes, and implement guided fixes and enhancements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on systems design, integration, code reviews, and technical problem solving.
• Maintain accurate documentation for systems, processes, code changes, and architectural decisions.
• Identify opportunities to create tools, automate tasks, and improve team efficiency.
• Support ongoing product quality, reliability, and maintainability within a mainframe R D environment. Required Qualifications and Skills
• Develop and maintain print-related software on mainframe platforms.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, document root causes, and support system enhancements.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and cross-functional technical collaboration.
• Improve tools, processes, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with mainframe systems and z/OS.
• Technical experience with one or more of the following: C++, Assembler, JCL, PL/1, or PLX.
• Strong systems design, software integration, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to write clear technical documentation for code, systems, and processes.
• Process-oriented, analytical, quality-focused, and detail-driven approach to software development.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. Preferred Qualifications
• 3 to 5 years of experience in mainframe software development or systems engineering.
• Experience supporting print-related applications, output management, or enterprise print workflows.
• Familiarity with research and development environments, product support, or platform modernization initiatives.
• Experience creating internal tools, improving processes, or supporting automation efforts.
