Job Description This Senior Application Developer will play a critical role in the modernization of a legacy manufacturing application currently written in VB6. The existing system interfaces with Oracle and SQL Server databases to retrieve production and product information, generate shipping and product labels containing QR codes, and print those labels to thermal printers used throughout manufacturing operations. Approximately 60% of this engagement will focus on discovery, analysis, and reverse engineering of the existing application, requiring the developer to work closely with business users and manufacturing stakeholders to understand current functionality, document workflows, identify dependencies, and capture business rules that may not be formally documented. The remaining effort will involve designing, developing, and implementing a modern replacement application using either C#/.NET or the Ignition platform. Responsibilities include analyzing existing VB6 code, reviewing database structures and integrations, documenting the current and future state architecture, rebuilding label generation and printing functionality, developing database connectivity solutions, performing testing and validation, and creating comprehensive technical and user documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with C#/.NET development, the ability to understand and support legacy VB6 applications, experience working with Oracle and SQL Server databases, and a proven track record of modernizing business-critical applications. Experience within manufacturing environments, barcode or QR code generation, thermal printer integration, and requirements gathering from non-technical stakeholders is highly preferred. This role requires a consultant who is equally comfortable investigating how an existing system works, partnering with end users to define requirements, and ultimately delivering a scalable, maintainable modernized solution.
