## Your Responsibilities As a Part-Time Student Software Engineer for John Deere Smart Connected Factory in Waterloo, IA, you will be a member of an Agile development team, contributing as a full-stack developer. In this role, you will support both backend and frontend development for digital manufacturing solutions and assist product teams in writing, testing, and delivering functionality for manufacturing applications. Additionally, you will:- Gain hands-on experience using AI as a thought partner — collaborating with AI coding agents to explore design alternatives, pressure-test assumptions, accelerate implementation, and review your own work critically.
- Practice spec-driven development, translating product intent into clear written specifications and implementation plans, then executing against them to deliver working software.
- Contribute to development documentation, including processes and best practices. Through this position, you will gain hands-on exposure to real-world engineering projects, contribute to the development and deployment of new solutions, and participate in architectural and technical design discussions.
- This role provides experience with a modern technology stack, including Python, TypeScript, React, SQL, Databricks, GitHub, Docker/Kubernetes, and Redis. This position is NOT available to students on immigration visas ## What Skills You Need
- Ideally, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or others may apply.
- Demonstrated aptitude for web-development
- Strong communication skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and adapt to changing environments
- Foundational coding knowledge and effective problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work 30-40 hours during the summer semester
- Ability to work 16-20 hours during the academic year
- Must be registered as a full-time student at a local accredited university.
- Graduation date of Spring 2027 or later.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.
