MIL-STD-882E

system safety, software criticality analysis, hazard analysis, safety requirements, C/C++ embedded software, model-based development, and software architecture and design for electronic controllers. The engineer will analyze and decompose system and software requirements, identify software criticality indices, assess designs and implementations for hazards and causal factors, and develop safety criteria to mitigate or eliminate risk. This role also reviews software architectures, designs, test plans, and verification procedures to ensure critical system safety objectives and software safety requirements are satisfied.

Responsibilities:

Analyze and decompose system and software requirements to determine Software Criticality Indices in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and the Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook. Develop software safety requirements and designs and assess implementations for hazards and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives. Support system hazard analyses for safety-critical electronic and software systems. Recommend safety criteria for system designs, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate identified hazards. Develop software subsystem architecture designs for features, functions, and algorithms across multiple electronic controllers. Review software architectures and detailed designs to evaluate the safety of electronic and software systems. Review software test plans and procedures for safety requirements verification and potentially hazardous operations.

Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship required by law or government contract Ability to Obtain a Secret Clearance Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline such as Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. 3+ years of experience developing, creating, and/or testing C, C++, embedded software, or control systems. 7+ years of experience designing software to achieve product-critical safety goals using

MIL-STD-882E, ISO

26262, or equivalent safety standards. Experience with model-based software development techniques. Working experience with requirements and systems engineering tools such as Cameo and/or DOORS. Understanding of the electrical and mechanical hardware, or plant, controlled by embedded software. Ability to travel up to 5%, primarily domestic with some international travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Postgraduate degree in a STEM discipline such as Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Working knowledge of embedded software test development and software systems integration engineering. Experience with Agile software development methodologies. Previous defense industry experience.
