Based on experience, scope, and engagement structure Job Overview Diverted River Technology (DRT) is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Development Engineer II (Senior) to develop and own embedded firmware supporting our innovative smart mini golf technology. This opportunity is open to candidates interested in either a full-time W-2 position or a contractor engagement . The role is based in Terre Haute, Indiana and requires an on-site/hybrid work arrangement . You will work closely with DRT's software engineering, hardware, and operations teams to develop, integrate, test, deploy, and support embedded systems used across our technology-driven entertainment venues. The ideal candidate has strong C/C++ embedded development experience , enjoys solving complex hardware/software problems, and is capable of taking ownership of embedded devices from development through release and ongoing support. Responsibilities Own the end-to-end development and support of embedded firmware for smart golf venue systems. Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain embedded software using C/C++ . Collaborate with hardware engineers to define requirements and integrate firmware with hardware components. Participate in embedded system architecture and technical design decisions. Support hardware bring-up, debugging, root-cause analysis, and resolution of hardware/software integration issues. Develop and support communication with embedded peripherals and hardware interfaces. Work with technologies including BLE, USB, serial communications, GPIO, sensors, motors, solenoids, controllers, and scanning peripherals . Support field deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of embedded systems at venue locations. Collaborate with software engineering teams to integrate embedded firmware with supporting applications and backend systems. Contribute to testing, release management, CI/CD processes, and firmware visibility across deployed systems. Maintain clear technical documentation covering firmware architecture, development, testing, releases, and troubleshooting. Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and manufacturing partners as needed. Qualifications 5+ years of professional embedded software/firmware development experience preferred. Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems . Demonstrated ability to own an embedded device or system through development, testing, release, and ongoing support. Experience with microcontrollers and embedded hardware. Experience with embedded communication protocols and hardware interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, USB, serial, and GPIO . Experience debugging complex hardware/software integration issues. Familiarity with Bluetooth/BLE and wireless communication technologies. Experience working with sensors, motors, controllers, or other electromechanical devices is a plus. Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) is beneficial. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams across software, hardware, manufacturing, and operations. Strong written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills. Employment & Compensation DRT is open to considering qualified candidates under either of the following arrangements: Full-Time W-2 Employee The anticipated base salary range is $110,000-$130,000 per year , depending on experience and qualifications. Additional employment terms and applicable benefits will be discussed during the hiring process. Contractor Qualified candidates may also be considered for a contractor engagement. Contractor compensation and engagement terms will be determined based on experience, qualifications, scope of work, and engagement structure.
